Schedule of events released for Epcot's 30th anniversary

If you're planning to be at Epcot to celebrate the park's 30th anniversary, it's time to plan your schedule. Whether you're attending the D23 special event on September 30, there are events sponsored by Disney's official fan club next Monday, October 1, that are open to the general public.

The presentations do not carry an extra cost beyond park admission, and take place at the World Showplace pavilion between the Canada and United Kingdom pavilions. The schedule starts at 1:00 for a one-hour, one-time-only presentation called "Designing the Future – Past and Present: A Panel of Disney Imagineers remembers 30 years of building tomorrow!" Later in the afternoon, there are two presentations of "Epcot: How it Changed the World with Marty Sklar," from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m., and from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

In addition, there is a special anniversary moment at the America Gardens Theatre at 3 p.m., featuring appearances by Disney executives and performances by Mariachi Cobre and the Voices of Liberty. At the end of the day, Illuminations is featuring a special 30th anniversary tag.

For special treat, find MousePlanet's Stephanie Wien at the events on September 30 or October 1 for a free copy of an Epcot-based MouseAdventure game to test your wits against our puzzle masters! If you're not sure whether or not you want to play our game in the Magic Kingdom on November 3, this is a good chance to get a feel what the game is like.

Downtown Disney to celebrate Frankenweenie

Downtown Disney celebrates Tim Burton's new stop-motion animated feature Frankenweenie this coming weekend, September 28 to 30, in preparation for the movie's opening next weekend.

The AMC Downtown Disney 24 is featuring other Tim Burton movies, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Alice in Wonderland, for $6 per ticket. Showings include a special extended 3-D preview of Frankenweenie. The Nightmare Before Christmas is being shown at 4:15 and 8 p.m., and Alice in Wonderland will be shown at 6:30 and 10:30 p.m. each night.

A meet-and-greet with Jack and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas (their first ever at Walt Disney World) takes place from 6 to 11 p.m. nightly between the theater and the Harley-Davidson store. At the same time, between the theater and Something Silver will be a picture spot themed to the New Holland Pet Cemetery.

Merchandise themed to Frankenweenie and The Nightmare Before Christmas will be available at both D-Street and mobile carts throughout Downtown Disney West Side. There will also be special Frankenweenie-themed treats available near the picture spot.

Endeavour flies past Disney Parks for the last time

The final space shuttle flight took it past Disney parks on both coasts, as Space Shuttle Endeavour made its final transit from Kennedy Space Center to Los Angeles on its way to its final home at the Los Angeles Science Center. Endeavour flew over Walt Disney World early Wednesday as it left the space center headed west on the back of its Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA), a NASA-modified Boeing 747. Walt Disney World video crews captured the scene.

After overnight stops in Houston and at Edwards Air Force Base in Southern California, Endeavour began a four-and-a-half hour tour of California, heading north to Sacramento and passing near the Walt Disney Family Museum by the Golden Gate Bridge, before its circuitous route around Southern California, where it passed over the Disneyland Resort. That pass was captured by MousePlanet's Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix.

With the landing of Endeavour, the last shuttle built, there will never again be an airborne space shuttle. Endeavour has been transferred to an Over Land Transporter, which will take the shuttle through the streets of Inglewood and Los Angeles October 12 and 13 on its way to the science center, where it goes on display on October 30.

Whispering Canyon shuffles menu, prices; skillet gone at lunch

Whispering Canyon Cafe has changed its menus, changing the tone of each meal. In the past, an all-you-can-eat skillet was a featured option at all three meals, with a la carte choices also available. The new menu keeps that configuration at breakfast, but lunch has eliminated the skillet, and dinner has eliminated the a la carte options. Price hikes have accompanied the change, of course. These changes to the prices and mix of choices have caused some discussion on what that does to the value of meals at the restaurant, and consternation over the assumed driver of the change, the Disney Dining Plan. Weigh in on the change on our MousePad discussion forums.
