Fans crowd the Rivers of America to see the return of Fantasmic.

Fantasmic returns – Fans began gathering around the Rivers of America Friday afternoon, eagerly awaiting the summer return of Fantasmic, Disneyland's popular water, laser and pyrotechnic show. While there were no major changes to the show — and the Ursula barge is still missing in action — most agreed that the show was a sight for sore eyes. Said one regular MousePlanet reader, “Everything just looks newer and cleaner.”

Shopping convenience hour returns – Disneyland has quietly reinstated the nightly shopping convenience hour on Main Street. In a round of budget cuts made in May, the bonus shopping hour — introduced during the “glowing away” season of the Main Street Electrical Parade — was eliminated for weeknights, and limited to Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Disney expected that visitors would simply herd into the World of Disney store to do their last-minute shopping. Now with Disneyland closing after the World of Disney on most nights because of the longer summer park hours, park management has reconsidered the plan. Look for them to reconsider again in the fall.

“100 Mickeys” returns – If you missed Eric Robinson's “100 Mickeys” display at the Disney Gallery, you have a second chance. The exhibit is at the Anaheim Museum until Sunday, August 10, with an artist reception on Sunday, July 13. Many of the collectors who purchased the original paintings have loaned them to the museum for this exhibit, and Disneyland has provided some merchandise support. For more information, call (714) 778-3301.

Getting ready for Pirates – Disneyland's maintenance crews are working overtime to get the west side of the park ready for the Pirates of the Caribbean movie premiere at the end of this month. The balconies above the Golden Horseshoe and all around New Orleans Square are being repainted, and in some cases, completely rebuilt.

Technicians are running new wiring to an area along Main Street that is often used for remote live broadcasts from radio and television stations. Another area in Small World mall is getting the same treatment.

Bonanza Outfitters may become the wildest pin store in the West.

More buzz about Buzz – We hear that the NASA exhibit and the Premier Shop are slated for closure after Christmas, in order to begin the their transformation into the queue and exit for the still-unconfirmed Buzz Lightyear attraction.

The Premier Shop, which is Disneyland's official pin trading location, becomes the merchandise location for the Buzz ride, and will house the ride's image capture system. An unconfirmed rumor says that riders could get a personalized photo with proof of their score and rank from the ride, something WDW visitors have been asking for since the attraction opened there.

Pin traders would prefer to move pin central to the vacant Plaza Pavillion patio. Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix.

Disneyland isn't ready to give up on the pin trading concept, and is scouting for a new location to house the pin shop. It looks like Bonanza Outfitters may become the new pin central. Some pin traders and cast members question why the park just doesn't use the vacant Plaza Pavillion location, and move the annual passholder processing center to DCA as was once discussed. “Pins belong on Main Street,” said one cast member. “You get the extra half-hour in the morning, the extra hour in the evening, and a lot more visibility.” That might just be why they want to hide the pin trading area in a less-travelled part of the park.

Mission: Remodeled Space – While Walt Disney World gets a brand new Mission: Space attraction, DCA has its own changes as well; it has converted the exit to the Mission Tortilla Factory to a combined entrance and exit. The actual machine area is still up and running; in fact, it is easier to get your free sample, and get out. The kitchen area is still there, but the old entrance area is currently being redone, and word is that they want to make it more like the Boudin Bakery across the way, with a video presentation instead of the litttle windows. [Information from MousePad member Darkbeer.]

Current Discounts & Promotions

New Play 4 Days pass Southern California residents, (zip codes 90000-93599), can purchase a new four-day ticket for just $79. The ticket is valid for four admissions to either Disneyland or Disney's California Adventure park, between June 1 and September 30, 2003. Residents can purchase just one ticket per person, per day, so your out-of-town relatives will need to buy their own, regular-priced admission.

The tickets can only be used at one park each day — no park hopping. We understand that you can use two admissions — one to each park — on the same day, effectively making this a $79 two-day park-hopper ticket, a $20 discount from the regular adult price.

The tickets can not be used at Disneyland on June 28, and July 4, 5, 26, and August 2, 9, 16, 23, 29, 30, and 31. There are no block-out days for DCA. Tickets are non-transferable, and you must show a valid ID each time. These tickets can be applied towards the cost of a Deluxe or Premium Annual Passport, (but not a Southern California Annual Passport), so long as you upgrade when or before you use the fourth admission.

Disney's Armed Forces Salute – Through Friday, December 19, all active members of the United States military (including Coast Guard and activated National Guard and Reservists) qualify for Disney's Armed Forces Salute and can claim one free 3-day park-hopper tickets. Since the tickets expire on December 19, you must claim them by December 17 to use all three day's worth. The passes can only be claimed at a park gate ticket booth. To claim the passes, valid military ID must be shown; activated National Guard and Reservists must also show their active duty orders.

In addition to the one free pass, each qualifying person can also purchase up to five 3-day companion passes for $39 each. If the qualifying person cannot visit a park to purchase these companion tickets, a spouse may do so instead.

Summer Annual Passholder special – The first ticket promotion this summer is an Annual Passholder special. From May 21 to September 3, APs can purchase a 2-Day Disneyland Resort Park Hopper for $69 (10+) and $49 (3-9). Just present your AP at any ticket booth. Limit five tickets per Passholder, per day. Tickets are valid for 14 days from date of first usage. First usage must be on date of purchase. Last usage must be on or before Tuesday, September 16, 2003.

MouseSavers.com reports hotel discounts through Expedia.com for Disneyland Resort Hotels. Rates start at $136 per night.

Park hopping in Northern California – AAA members in Northern California can now purchase 2-day Park Hopper tickets at their local CSAA office. The tickets are available through Thursday, June 19. The adult price is $99; children ages 3 to 9 pay $79.

This ticket is also available at Disneyland ticket booths, or at Disneyland.com. The second day of the ticket must be used within 13 days of the first use.

Free coffee on Main Street, revisited – Receive a free small coffee when you buy a mug at the Market House on Main Street, USA. This offer is only valid at the Market House, and is for a limited time only. The Market House has just begun serving the Mickey's Really Swell Coffees as part of this promotion. Now you can try the Disney Blend, Disney Decaf, French Vanilla and Hazelnut flavors sold at the parks.

Annual passholder discounts at Alamo – California residents get discounts of up to 20% off Alamo's retail rates in the United States. Disneyland annual passholders can get a free Disneyland Resort Character Breakfast voucher when the rent their car for 3 days or more from March 24th through August 31, 2003 at the Los Angeles Airport location. For more details and the discount code you'll need for this offer, visit the annual passholder section of the Disneyland Web site.

ESPN Zone discounts for annual passholders – Disneyland annual passholders can get an Season Ticket Frequent Dining Card at the Downtown Disney ESPN Zone. The Season Ticket entitles you to a free soda with your meal purchase of $6.99 or more. Once you have made four meal purchases, you receive the fifth meal and soda free, and get a chance to win a pair of tickets to the ESPY Awards in 2004. See location for more information and details.

  • 3-day Disneyland Resort Park Hopper Ticket
  • 1-day ticket to Sea World Adventure park
