Another week, another change to the refurbishment schedule

Visitors planning trips to the Disneyland Resort this fall may be pleased to learn that Pirates of the Caribbean will not close October 13 to November 15 for refurbishment as was previously scheduled—at least according to the latest incarnation of the resort's ever-changing refurbishment schedule. The New Orleans Square Railroad Station and Big Thunder Ranch have been added to the refurbishment schedule, and the current schedule is listed in the Current Refurbishment/Attraction Closures section below.

Disney changes Half-Marathon route, runner, spectator and volunteer information update

MousePad discussion board member "jiminycesq" posted a complaint last week that Disney had altered the course of the third annual Disneyland Half-Marathon, scheduled for Sunday, August 31. Runners expected that they would again be treated to the special experience of running through Angel Stadium for an extremely rare opportunity to "run the bases" as they did the first two years—but instead, the 2008 course will go around the outside of the stadium before turning north and eventually looping back to the Disneyland Resort. In an e-mail reply to a runner who questioned the route change, Disney explained that the race could not go through Angel Stadium because the Angels have a day game on the day of the half-marathon.

If you'd like to watch the race in style, Disneyland is once again offering a Spectator VIP Package at $119 per person. VIPs receive reserved seating at the finish line, reserved parking and restrooms, continental breakfast and a one-day admission ticket to either Disneyland or Disney's California Adventure. If you don't want to pony up that much money, Disney suggests three locations within walking distance of the resort, and additional viewing opportunities are available as the course winds through the city of Anaheim. Visitors who are staying at one of the Disneyland Resort hotels can watch the race as it passes viewing areas at the Paradise Pier Hotel and the Grand Californian Hotel.

Runners looking to carbo load before the race can purchase tickets for themselves and their family/friends to a "Pasta in the Park Party" to be held the Saturday night before the race (link). Tickets are $125 per person ($99 for children 3-9) and include a one-day admission to Disney's California Adventure, a buffet pasta dinner and dessert event with Disney character appearances in DCA, reserved seating for Disney's Electrical Parade after dinner and "one fastpass attraction experience."

The Anaheim Community Foundation is seeking volunteers to help with athlete registration and goody bag distribution at the Expo, and to staff the Family Fun Run 5K, Kids’ Races and Half Marathon courses. Volunteers who work a minimum of 12 hours will receive a Disneyland theme park ticket, as well as other perks offered to all volunteers. Visit the event Web site for more information about volunteer opportunities (link).

Disney has announced that the fourth Annual Disneyland Half Marathon weekend will be again be held over Labor Day Weekend, September 4-6, 2009.

MouseAdventure registration opens Friday

Registration for the Fall 2008 MouseAdventure scheduled for Sunday, November 16, opens this Friday, August 15 at approximately 8:00 a,m,, PDT. Please note that this is the first time we have tried to schedule registration start time, and registration may open shortly before or after the target time. Please bear with us if this is the case. The event formats, prices and registration limits are as follows:

  • MouseAdventure Mystery – $95 per team. Registration limited to 100 teams.
MouseAdventure Mystery is a mix of elements from our Classic and Mad Scramble formats. Teams will solve quests that - with a little detective work - help them solve "Whodunit?" This division will include quests in Disney's California Adventure. This event is recommended only for teams that have previously completed a MouseAdventure event, and we encourage first-time teams to register for MouseAdventure 101.

  • MouseAdventure Mystery - Advanced Division – $105 per team. Registration limited to 50 teams.
This is the longest and most difficult version of the Fall 2008 event, and is recommended only for returning teams that have previously completed a MouseAdventure: Mad Scramble format event or at least two prior MouseAdventure events. Advanced Division teams will solve quests in DCA, Disneyland and perhaps even Downtown Disney.

  • MouseAdventure 101 – $40 per team. Registration limited to 75 teams.
A shorter, easier event designed for new MouseAdventure players and teams, or for returning teams looking for a slightly less intense experience, this division will feature "Best of MouseAdventure" quests taken from previous MouseAdventure events in Disneyland Park.

Important: We have slightly reduced capacity for this event, and we expect the Advanced and Basic divisions of this event to sell out in less than two days. Be prepared with your team information as soon as registration begins. Team captains must provide the first and last name for each member of their team, and we do request an e-mail address for each player if at all possible. If you are a team seeking additional players, or a player looking to form a team, visit our MousePad discussion board for help (link).

Giant rats bounce from the Ratatouillefloat. Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix.

...We reported earlier this year when Disney pulled certain acrobatic elements from the Pixar Play Parade shortly after the parade debuted, but we've been remiss in reporting that most of those elements have been restored to the show. The bouncing rats from the Ratatouille float have returned, though the chefs that precede that unit have not returned to their high stilts. The swinging bugs from the a bug's life unit have also been restored.

Current Discounts & Promotions

Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts.

This information is pulled from many sources but much thanks go to MouseSavers.com for providing the bulk of the information. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line (link).

Visit our Annual Passholders Blockout Dates page to see more dates. You can see future calendar schedules at Disneyland. As always, specifics are subject to change without notice (or occasionally, without us noticing) so when information conflicts between what is presented here and that presented by Disney, it is best to assume Disney's information is correct.

Visit the Park Hours section of our Disneyland Park guide for additional details about Magic Morning and Toontown Morning Madness, including available attractions.
