Feature: The Future of NFFC/Disneyana Fan Club with Chuck Oberleitner and Anita Schaengold

On today's show, Steven Ng interviews Chuck Oberleitner and Anita Schaengold of the NFFC, soon to be known as the Disneyana Fan Club.

Chuck Oberleitner, NFFC's Vice President for Media Relations and Communication, started by explaining what his job duties are. He then talked about some of the interesting panels at this summer's annual Disneyana Sale and Convention. Next, Chuck talked about the history behind the recent vote on changing the name of the organization. Between the recording of this show and its publication, the results were announced in a press release, that the members had approved the name change, and that the NFFC will soon be known as the Disneyana Fan Club. Paperwork will be filed to put the change in place officially. Chuck also talked about the difference between the NFFC and D23.

Anita Schaengold, NFFC's Special Events Chairperson, talked about the upcoming Walt Disney World Holiday Extravaganza. This year's event replaces the annual convention that had been held in October. The new event will take place December 10-13 this year, and pricing has been reduced, as well. This year's event costs $95 if you register by September 30, after which the price rises to $125. The event takes place during the weekend originally planned for MouseFest this year. Anita talked about some of the really cool events planned for the Extravaganza, as well.

• It used to be the Concourse Steak House, but now it's the Fish Shop in the UK at EPCOT and Yakitori House in Japan at EPCOT. Not very exciting, but we really like the food at both locations and don't have to worry about reservations!
• Sunshine Seasons. (I'm not really into table service meals.)
• The rotisserie place at Animal Kingdom, good chicken and a nice hot plate meal for a reasonable price. Caveat: Family hasn't been to WDW since before Hurricane Katrina, Easter 2005, so I am posting with a 4+ year old food memory of the place, and times may or may not have changed.
• Pecos Bill -- always the first day. Otherwise, there's so many we try a new sit-down restaurant every trip.
• For my little boys it is definitely Chef Mickeys and Coral Reef! For me, a trip is not complete without lunch and pastries at Boulangerie Patisserie!
• I was thinking Pecos Bill myself!
• Pecos Bill's and Chef de France.

• Marrakesh on the first night, Chef Mickey's on the last morning.
• Rose & Crown. Went there on the honeymoon 18 years ago and every trip since. Curiously, I'm going there next week, but w/o hubby who is ditching me for 2 days to take the kidlets to Cocoa Beach. I'm doing resort research instead!
• Every few years the "must do" restaurant seems to change in our family.
• The latest is Citricos. In the past it's been Chefs de France, Coral Reef, or Boma.
• Trails End (for dinner). We just discovered this gem a couple of trips ago and lament the fact that we didn't try this place sooner.
• Boma!
• Used to be Spoodles, so I'm looking forward to trying Kouzzina. The sushi bar at Japan is a close second and I like the remodel.
• Columbia Harbor House every trip. Artist Point whenever I can.
• Columbia Harbor House or Tangerine Cafe
• Restaurant Merichesh (Morrocco). I had two till mousefest and decided that Tappin Eddo (sp?) was just not my taste anymore.
• Cape May Cafe & Boma. Cape May b/c we all luv seafood except my dad who is allergic. Boma b/c it has unique food & zebradomes!
• 50's Prime Time Cafe! The food is ok, but the environment is amazing! We like to see how far we can push our luck.
• Cosmic Rays. The cheese sauce is to die for.
• Boma as a specific restaurant but we also must do a character breakfast every trip
• We always eat at Garden Grill
• it was our first ever character meal so has a special place in our heart
• That would be Biergarten in Epcot for me!

• Chef Mickey's! Great sundae bar and you get to see the Big 5 characters where THEY come to YOU!
• Definetly Yachtsman Steakhouse. Best Steaks on property.
• jiko and cali grill. Soon to add Chef Mickey's sugar-buzz breakfast to the list

• usually Japan's Teppan Edo, if not then Boma for sure. Yum!
• Without fail, I always eat at Cape May at the Beach Club. It's the only place that I find all you can eat clams and mussels.

• None here. For the most part the restaurants are all of the same general upper-ok quality so I like to eat around.
• Casey's Corner and Sci-Fi Dine In are our "must-do" dining locations at WDW. - Every one of our trips includes a meal at Crystal Palace and my teen & tween kids still love taking pictures with Pooh andTigger.
• Cosmic Rays It's nothing fancy and not really the food but something about watching sonny eclipse is special every time
• beaches and cream! First meal on property, last meal on property.
• We try to eat at the Italian restaurant at Epcot every time we are there. It is so yummy!
• Lately it's been Liberty Tree Tavern. And Boma. Oh, and Citricos.
• My wife and I both have to eat at Raglan Road, especially if there is a live band!
• The restaurant that I must eat at is Raglan Road! I would also have to put down Le Cellier.
• Most definitely O'Hana's-Poly Resort

Mike would like to see something really cool with Disney Interactive, something in the Midwest, more regularly-scheduled events, and maybe events in each part of the country every few months. He'd also like to see traveling tours.

Mark thinks that it would be nice to see more events across the country on weekends to make it easy for folks to get to events. He would love to see D23 have movie premieres instead of just at the El Capitan, similar to what was done by the former Disney Club.
