As Mark Goldhaber reported in the Walt Disney World Update, Aulani is also celebrating the restart of sales of interests in Aulani's Disney Vacation Club lodgings. The Orlando Sentinel reports that Disney has received approval from Hawaiian state regulators to resume sales following a 33 percent increase in annual dues. Sales resume in other states once they individually approve the new consumer disclosure forms.
The starting annual dues are now $5.73 per point, instead of the $4.31 per point originally charged. The accounting and procedural errors that caused the issuance of the original dues rate eventually led to the firing of three Disney executives, including former Disney Vacation Club President Jim Lewis. DVC members who purchased their interests at the lower dues rate will receive a dues subsidy to maintain their original dues rate relative to the official dues rate, similar to that granted to early purchasers of Disney's Vero Beach Resort.
The Blue Sky Cellar in Disney California Adventure park closed last week for a brief reset, reopening Friday with a new exhibit focusing on the Buena Vista Street section of the park. Several displays from the D23 Expo were relocated to the Blue Sky Cellar, including the model of Buena Vista Street and a miniature of the Walt and Mickey statue that will be installed in DCA.
Artwork lining the walls shows new attraction posters for DCA, street views of the new buildings, and diagrams and blueprints of the new layout. Displays show details of the new cast member costumes, decor samples of the new stores, and stories behind some of the businesses being created for DCA. A new video describes the theme and design inspiration for Buena Vista Street (though one viewer found the film to be "emotionally heavy-handed") and shows time-lapse footage of the current remodeling project.

If you cannot sail on the 15-night cruise to Hawaii on the Disney Wonder in April 2012, you now have a second chance to cruise to Hawaii with Disney. Following the grand opening ceremony for Disney's new Aulani resort in Hawaii, the Disney Cruise Line announced a second Hawaii cruise for 2012, this one a 14-night sailing departing October 14, 2012. The cruise includes 8 sea days, and stops in Kahului (on Maui), Nawiliwili Harbor (on Kauai), Honolulu, and Hilo, on the Big Island.
"We listen to our guests, and shortly after we announced our first Hawaiian voyage it was clear our guests wanted more options to visit Hawaii," said Disney Cruise Line president Karl Holz. Most of the cabins for the April 2012 sailing sold out in days, with only category 4 and higher staterooms still available. Prices for the October sailing start at $1800 per person, double occupancy, for a standard inside stateroom. KTLA reports that the flying carpet apparatus used in Disney's Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular flipped upside down during a performance Sunday afternoon. The two performers who were on the carpet during the incident were unharmed. The report quotes Disneyland Resort spokeswoman Suzi Brown, who said, "During today's 4:50 p.m. performance of Aladdin at Disney California Adventure, there was a malfunction on the flying carpet, on which two performers were riding. As is our safety practice, both performers were harnessed and they were uninjured."
Video of the incident posted to YouTube shows the carpet swaying back and forth (it is unclear from the video if the carpet as over the stage or over the audience when it stopped), and two announcements asking guests to please leave the auditorium. You can also hear the frightened response of the actress on the carpet, and some audience members calling, "Hold on, Jasmine."

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the Resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

This discount is available at MWR/ITT offices at your military base, or at the Disneyland Resort ticket booths. Valid military ID is required. The price is the same for adults and children, and total of six tickets may be purchased per military member, regardless of who purchases the tickets (the member or their spouse). Costco 4-Day Park Hopper Ticket plus $50 Disney gift card ($239.99) – A special offer for Costco members who are also residents of Southern California. Note: this ticket is no longer listed on the Costco website, but you may find it at Southern California Costco stores. Unlike most other park hopper tickets, this ticket has no "fuse" - you can use the first admission today, and have until October 19, 2011 to use the remaining admission days before the ticket expires. The ticket is blocked out August 21-22, 2011. The ticket states that visitors "Must reside within ZIP codes 90000-93599" and that "Proof of residency required upon redemption." The ticket you purchase at Costco is a valid admission ticket, and you can take it directly to a main entrance gate to use it. ESPNZone MVP Club – Membership in the MVP Club does not offer any discounts on food. However, once a member you can make an online reservation for your party up to three days in advance and will get a 25% increase in points purchased when playing games in the Sports Arena (and 40 bonus points at activation). You must register online and your membership card will then be mailed to you within two weeks. The card must then be activated at any ESPNZone by the person who signed up for the card and ID will be required (link).
