Our retired guide on visiting the park. For current info, see Park Updates: Disneyland

Magic Morning / Entertainment & Events

Show times for Fantasmic, Fireworks [both if in season] and the Parade are included on the HOURS page. Other show times, and additional event information is located below.

MAGIC MORNING / EARLY ENTRY ADMISSION

Usually available daily EXCEPT Wed. & Sun.

Early Entry allows visitors entry to selected areas of the Park 60 to 90 minutes PRIOR to the normal opening time. Selected attractions are open, breakfast is available, and Disney Characters are present.

Attractions that are open MAY include: Space & Splash Mtns., King Arthur's Carrousel, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Mad Tea Party, Pinocchio's Daring Journey, Peter Pan's Flight, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, Matterhorn Bobsleds, Monorail, Pirates of the Caribbean, the Indiana Jones Adventure, the Jungle Cruise and Star Tours.

TIP: Early Entry is no longer a small or exclusive affair; be prepared to jostle your way in with the hordes who are getting up just as early as you from all the local motels who've also booked Disney Travel Co. packages. Arrive 45 to 60 minutes early at the front gate or you will be delayed in your entry.

There are several different Early Entry programs. Early Entry is not sold separately or to the general public at large. Event tickets must be obtained through one of these sources:

  • MAGIC MORNINGS are sold exclusively by Walt Disney Travel Company, as a travel package option. Must be booked in advance. Includes admission and breakfast.
  • EARLY ADMISSION is offered to all DL Hotel and DL Pacific guests upon check-in. Breakfast NOT included.
  • FLEX PASSPORTS--5 days for the price of 2 are sold thru contracted tour agencies and area hotels. Present Flex Passport for admission to ONE Early Entry. Breakfast NOT included. (See DISCOUNT INFORMATION for more details about these passports.)

NOTE: It's always a good idea to call the day before your visit to confirm the above schedules. Keep in mind they are ALWAYS subject to change. Inclement weather may also change hours without advance notice.

STORYTELLING:

AT TINKERBELL'S TOY SHOP: Usually three times a day (11:30 AM, 12 Noon and 1:30 PM) some of the princess walk around characters (either Belle, Snow or Cinderella) host a story telling session in the rear of the shop. Look around for a chair and a rug laid down on the floor. A small sign near the entrance of this shop in Fantasyland lists scheduled times.

AT ALADDIN'S OASIS: Up to eight times a day (usually just five minutes before the hour beginning at 11 AM) the Aladdin and Jasmine walk around characters host a storytelling session for the little ones in this former restaurant. Look for a small sign near the entrance of this location in Adventureland for scheduled times.

AT THE DL HOTEL CHECK-IN LOBBY: Afternoons during busy check in periods Cinderella tells shorter stories with her assistant, a nice way to keep the kids busy while you haggle over your check in / out of the hotel.

These events are a wonderful idea! I always feel the Disney magic is best when it gets more personal like this - and many of the kids leave with a delightful experience.

Live music is also performed all over the park with (among others) the Disneyland Band. On Main St. look for the DAPPER DANS (during the week) and the COKE CORNER PIANIST (if it's Rod, you're in for a treat).

In New Orleans Square listen for the GLORYLAND BRASS BAND, the ORLEANS STREET BAND, the BAYOU BRASS, the wonderful ROYAL STREET BACHLORS, or the SIDE STREET STRUTTERS. RAY TEMPLIN plays a mean piano and ED PLEASANTS a meaner sax.

In Adventureland listen for the TRINIDAD & TOBAGO SHOWBOAT STEELBAND ORCHESTRA or ALTURAS. The comic improv group, LAUGHING STOCK & CO play around in Frontierland.

Performance schedules vary by season and park attendance, expect most of this entertainment to take place on weekends in the off season.

MERCHANDISING / DINING / SPECIAL EVENTS:

Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix from MouseShoppe now maintains a special section of MousePlanet to provide this information on a timely basis - All About Merchandise is a terrific resource for the resorts.

As always paid admission is required to enter the park for special events [unless admission is included in your admission ticket] and they ask that you bring no personal items to be signed. Quantities are limited to inventory on hand. The Disneyland Gallery may also be called direct about their events at [714] 781-7531.

RESERVATIONS for THE BLUE BAYOU [if open that day] may be made at starting at time of the park's opening. (It may sometimes open for reservations in off-peak periods as late as 30 to 45 minutes after park opening.)

Reserving a spot for Fantasmic special seating used to require getting up at the crack of dawn to wait in line for a guest services window to open on the day of the show. No more. In Spring 2002, Disneyland made it easier to obtain Priority Seating reservations for Fantasmic special seating. Call (714) 781-4400 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., seven days a week, up to 30 days in advance for seats in the Fantasmic Balcony in the Disney Gallery, or the Fantasmic Premium Viewing area.
