FireGuide! - Outside the Berm

Beyond the park

Page written / photos taken by Karl Buiter

I highly recommend watching the Fireworks from inside the park - the music and atmosphere just makes it very special.  But sometimes, there are times when you just cant be inside the Happiest Place on Earth™.

Below are two locations where you can see, if not hear, the show - the Harbor Boulevard overpass over Interstate 5, and the Disneyland Pacific Hotel.

Harbor Boulevard Overpass

Below, a huge burst seems to come right over the backstage Monorail and Disneyland Railroad Roundhouse.

Monorail Roundhouse Gets a Show!

The shells below are being launched from an area just behind ToonTown.

Early Finale  Late Finale

Finales are wonderful from all directions.  Above and below we see the final shells framed by the Team Disney Anaheim building to the right and the Warehouses and Roundhouse to the left.

Purple Salute

An especially colorful burst above lights the sky above the automobiles zipping along Interstate 5.

Disneyland Pacific Hotel

For a far more practical location - here are some views from the Pacific Hotel.  Parents may often find themselves here or at the Disneyland Hotel tending to small children who just can't stay awake for the nightly show.

Toontown Burst

Above, an aerial burst over Toontown lights up the new Grand Californian Hotel and Downtown Disney area in the foreground.

Castle Spotters Guide

While the castle is hard to find at night from this distance, the show does a good job of spotting for you just where to look!

In stark contrast to the intensity of the show near Small World, here we see the show as if we are overlooking a diorama.

Fantasmic!

Pacific Flares Fantasmic from a distance!

Above from the hotel, you can see the finale portion of Fantasmic!  It's hard to see the Twain or other elements, but the nightly pyros certainly brighten this corner of the park.

The camera used for these shots

I use the Sony TRV-900, a 3-CCD Digital Video camcorder

Most images were taken using Progressive Scan with a 1/4 or 1/8 second shutter speed, and set on manual focus

Final Images were captured in a post editing process. Images required modest adjustment in PhotoShop before size reduction and conversion to a JPEG file
