Tarzan Treehouse - A photo tour
You can try to describe the new Tarzan Treehouse to people, or you can let pictures do the job! Here's a photo tour of the Swiss Family Treehouse redo that opened summer 1999 at Disneyland.

As you can see, they've done a terrific job - you can consider it a solid "C" under the old ticket book system.  It's a smaller, yet still fun type of attraction that they haven't really done in a long time. Grab a vine and join me!

View from the river Suspension bridge

The photo on the above right is the view from the riverside, the second shot is a look at the suspension bridge entrance to the treehouse from the Pirates bridge. Below, the first shot is looking back over the bridge towards the river. As you head across the bridge, you can see how part of the shipwreck is worked into the tree as a room.

A reminder of the previous tenants Follow the story with the books throughout the attraction

The detail is terrific throughout, note the tribute to the Swiss Family [above left]. All around the attraction, opened books placed throughout [above right] tell the story of the movie as you walk through.

Sabor is angry - watch out Hopefully Baby Tarzan is ok

One of the first rooms you visit once in the tree [above left] is where the leopard Sabor has just invaded. If you try to reach out to him, watch out - he'll let you know to leave him alone! Across the way [above right] baby Tarzan's crib shakes each time Sabor roars - the baby's cry is strangely familiar...

Tarzan's new mom looks into the mirror and sees the future

In another room, Tarzan's new mother sees future reflections in a "mirror" - by pressing the brass buttons on the nearby storybook you too can see the images.

Jane sketches Tarzan As you leave, you can see Tarzan in the mirror

In another room later on, you can see Jane sketching Tarzan [left above] - her sketch magically appears on the pad in the center. As you leave the room, looking back you'll see Tarzan's reflection [right, above] in the mirror.

Can you hear the Swisskapolka? Trahsing the camp

Once you reach the ground level [left above] - a very familiar melody is heard on the gramophone, and it isn't Phil Collins. Looks like Terk [Tarzan's best ape friend] has been trashing the camp, and has made percussion instruments out of everything in sight. You too [right, above] can bang, hit and swat things to your heart's content, pulling on nearby vines activates jungle sounds too.

Looks familar huh? Terk and Jane in the meet 'n greet below the tree

OK, who has the banana breath...

Looks like Jane has interesting taste in tea sets [left top row]. There's Terk and Jane [right, top row] in the meet and greet area adjacent to the bottom exit from the treehouse, and Tarzan and Terk [on his knees] in the photo directly above.

Tony Baxter talks to folks about the treehouse

Imagineer Tony Baxter [left] at the treehouse on the first Sunday it was open to the public.

It's prudent to expect good-sized lines during the summer months. At this time the treehouse will close just before and during Fantasmic performances each evening, and then reopen afterwards if time permits. It also closes when it rains.

People tend to move slowly through it - so spending some time inside once you enter is inevitable. The treehouse tour itself should take you around fifteen minutes. Aim for an early morning, or late afternoon visit to avoid too much sun.
