I enjoyed this excursion. It was SUPER windy the day I did it, I think this was about the only excursion that wasn't cancelled (I have photos of waves breaking OVER the reef at the edge of the family beach). Therefore, we got a slightly abbreviated version of the kayak, and due to the late (but not too late) docking of the Wonder, and tides, our guide, Joey, did a quicker version of the "Nature walk" part then normal. Due to the wind, she (Joey) requested that Disney refund half of the cost of the excursion, which they did.

The walk is really the walk out to the kayak launch site, which appeared to be about as far out from the runway as the outlook tower(?) on the Island, with a couple of stops to talk about some of the plants and animals.

The kayaks are small 2 person sea kayaks - relatively lightweight molded plastic, basically. After launching we went up a 'creek' (with paddle ;) which was really just a very calm inlet of the ocean. It was pretty amazingly calm, given how rough the seas were. It was a little bit of an exercise, but nothing too strenuous.

My boatmate and I were the only two brave(?) enough to go out to a buoy at the end of the kayak trip, where the seas were noticeable. We did fine getting OUT to the buoy, but when trying to get AROUND it, we managed to get broadside to a wave and it was game over. But the water was only about hip deep, so it wasn't too much of a problem to re-right the boat and get back in (though I was far from graceful!)

On the walk back to Serenity Bay, it wasn't an official part of the 'nature tour' part, but a few of us stayed together with Joey, who told us about a little more history, and some of the practicalities of giving tours on a private island. She, and a couple of hair braiders and people who work in the 'local' stores boat over every morning from their home on a nearby island (Abaco Island, I believe).

Since she is not a Disney employee, she can accept tips, and a couple of us did forget about that at the time, so I was able to leave a tip for her on the second day we were at Castaway Cay.

I'd recommend this excursion for adults and 15+ or so teens (not sure what Disney's age limit is). I'm not in 'athletic' shape by any stretch, and it was not too much of a work out for me. I don't think I got my heart rate up at all, (well, except maybe when we tipped over!) and I wasn't sore at all the next day, which I was concerned about since my upper body strength is non-existent.

I'd definitely do this excursion again.
