| Grand Opening Report - The Line - Two |
| Here are some quick shots of the overnight line
to enter the new park, taken by Steven Ng. This second series of shots
shows how they were accommodating people in Disneyland for the sleepover,
and then the crowd heading into the park for the first time.
Many people had sleeping bags - as seen below.
But that didn't stop others from staying up all night and talking about all the new things they were going to see the next day.
Finally, at about 7 AM they started moving the crowds onto Main Street - there were three groups it was all split up into.
Looking back at the hub at quarter after 7...
To keep spirits up, they had music for the folks - a nice touch.
Finally, everyone worked their way back under the berm and into the entry plaza for Disneyland.
Mostly the media had the best views of the opening ceremonies - for photo reasons - but enough could be glimpsed to see what was going on.
The next two shots show the crowd stretching back into Disneyland, and then onto the new park's gates.
Finally, everyone was in! And guess what, the crowds remained light the entire day.
Most visitors reported walk-ons on all the rides - and several boasted of almost continuous rides on both California Screamin' and Soarin' Over California. The crowds remained light right up until closing. Who would have figured the grand opening to be a perfect day to enjoy the place without any waits in line? |
