Rental Car Considerations
Hot Tip:
National Car Rental is the "official" car rental company of
Disneyland. If you rent from National, and have the "Emerald
Aisle" perk, you can avoid a wait in line when you pick up your car
at LAX or John Wayne Airports.
Unlike Walt Disney World, Disneyland's transportation system is limited. Of course,
since the scope and size of Disneyland is so much less than that of WDW, the available
transportation is not unreasonable. The bottom line for a trip to Southern California: If
you are flying to the area, and you're going to be "doing" more than
just the Disneyland Resort, you really need to have a rental car.
Besides the need for traveling to and from the airport and your hotel, you will need
transportation to local restaurants and other area attractions.
On the other hand, if you are flying to Southern California...
- AND -
you're
staying at a Disney hotel or another nearby hotel that offers a
shuttle to the resort (or is so close by that walking is not prohibitive)...
- AND -
you're planning to visit only the Disneyland Resort...
then you can take an airport
shuttle to your hotel, rely on the Disney transportation and/or your hotel shuttle and
skip the rental car. You'll have to judge for yourself.
