about $180 (part of a Disney Club package)

Date(s) of Stay:

August 9-12, 2001

Accommodation Used:

Standard Room / Studio

Accommodations Review:

We stayed on the 4th floor of the main hotel with a room overlooking the pool area. Our room had been refurbished with new furniture and decorations. We loved the pixie dust wallpaper border that glowed after the lights were turned off. We had two very comfortable queen beds which had castles engraved on the headboards. BIG room for a standard room. The vanity mirror looked like a "princess" mirror.

Why Did you Select This Resort for your Stay?

I've always wanted to stay at the original hotel. We stayed 5 nights at the Disneyland Pacific hotel last November (now named Paradise Pier) and we did not receive any of the "Disney magic" from our stay there. We were very disappointed with the rooms, and did not get the "view" or non-smoking room as promised.

Room # and Location Description:

Room 2220, 4th floor, next to the elevator. Very quiet, did not hear any noise overflow.

Room Location Pros & Cons:

Great location, easy check-in, near the stores, pool, coffee shop. Simply walk out the back door by the pool area and you are now near the Downtown Disney shopping area.

Check-In / Check-Out Comments:

Easy check-in at 2:45, at first a long line, then the "shift change" occurred and the new staff came on-board. VERY friendly!

WDW Transportation Comments:

Walked through Downtown Disney to get to the parks. Did take the monorail one afternoon, only to get stuck for 20 minutes in the middle of the ride, making us late for our reservation at Blue Bayou. The Blue Bayou staff were very accommodating and seated us right away (after telling them where we were for the last 20 minutes)

Restaurant / Lounge Review:

Did not eat on-site this time, however, we did eat at the PCH Grill on our last visit and the food was great. The children made their own pizzas at the table.

Pool Description / Comments:

The pool was crazy since we had warm days (around 90 degrees). GREAT theming! Two complaints - not enough chairs to sit on and parents should keep the babies OUT of the pool. I am talking about the un-potty trained. The pool was closed for 24 hours due to 2 accidents on the same day. My children were very disappointed.

What Suggestions Would you Give Anyone that is Considering This Resort?

Ask for a renovated room.

Other Comments:

I believe in spending the extra money to stay at the resort, it feels more like a vacation. We stayed at an off-site hotel on August 8th for a fraction of the price. It just did not feel like a Disney vacation. I want the pixie-dust and fairytale experience.
