Accommodations Review:

The Sierra Tower was recently redone and the rooms are now decorated the same as the Marina Tower (my personal favorite). This room was fairly large and comfortable and overlooks the Neverland Pool and Hook's Pointe restaurant facing to the west. This makes for quite a view of the sunset. Although a little noisy at night from returning park guests outside the sliding glass door, basically a pretty quiet location. I both like and dislike the new tall, almost giant-sized beds. You actually have to climb up into them. I like that it makes me feel like a little kid again, but I disliked getting in and out of it - especially with a disability that makes the climbing part difficult. Providing a small stool might be an option the hotel should consider to make access a little easier. I love the decor of these new rooms with the soft, sepia toned colors and Tinkerbell sprinkling pixie dust around the top of the walls at the ceiling. The giant Mickey hands holding the light in the bath area are a fun touch as is the wall paper with subtle topiary versions of the Fab Five. The room contains a hair dryer and various shower supplies. Towels were plentiful and very clean. A shower seat was already provided in the bathroom and it was nice to not have to call for one. The large armoire is a light oak color with a sepia toned map of the original Disneyland on the front. It contains the dresser drawers, television, and a small refrigerator. You also have a writing table and chair with a good light on it and a very large easy chair with foot rest and a small side table. Unfortunately, their is no reading light near the chair, so you can really only use it for tv watching. The closet had plenty of hangers, extra blankets and pillows (there were already four on the bed), and ironing board and iron, and a small safe. This room had everything I needed and I spent more time there than most visitors would.

Why Did you Select This Resort for your Stay?

Convenience to park and Downtown Disney. I don't drive, so alternate transportation to the parks is a necessity.

Room # and Location Description:

2352, Sierra Tower, Handicapped accessible room. This room is located on the west side of the tower about four rooms down from the elevator. It was also next to a storage closet and across from the elevator used by Housekeeping.

Room Location Pros & Cons:

The room location proved to be a bit noisier than previous rooms as you got early noise from Housekeeping moving their carts out of the elevator. It's proximity to the elevator was nice in that I didn't have to walk to far.

Check-In / Check-Out Comments:

My room in the Marina Tower was not yet ready when I arrived, nor was it ready an hour later when I checked back. At this time I was offered an alternate location in the Sierra which I accepted. It seemed strange to me that rooms still had not been turned over by 4:00 p.m. when check out time is 11:00 a.m. Check out was via telephone express and so was quite fast and easy.

WDW Transportation Comments:

They desperately need some sort of shuttle service for those with disabilities to get from the hotels to the Main Gate. Although I enjoy Downtown Disney, walking through it repeatedly over two days was exhausting. Yes, it is possible to take the Monorail to Disneyland, but then you still have to walk to the Main Gate area if you want to rent an ECV or a wheelchair. The Disneyland Hotel does have some wheelchairs available to guests, but they can be awkward to use if you want to switch to an ECV while in the park. It would be great to have some sort of tram service from the hotel itself to the Main Gates just like they have from the parking lot. In fact, last time I went down with a friend we stayed at the Disneyland Hotel but drove over the the Mickey Parking Lot and caught the tram rather than walk over.

Restaurant / Lounge Review:

Had lunch one day at Croc's Bits and Bites. Standard hamburger stand fair. The food was actually quite good and it was quick and probably the least expensive place in the resort complex. Had breakfast at Hook's Pointe - one of my favorite places for breakfast now that the Monorail Cafe is a distant memory. The food was very good and plentiful and the service outstanding. The meal came to around $10.

Pool Description / Comments:

Very lovely to look at with terrific themeing. I did not use the facility, but it looked like everyone was having a good time. Kids and adults both love the slides that curve down from the pirate ship.

What Suggestions Would you Give Anyone that is Considering This Resort?

If you have special requests and/or you are disabled, be sure you discuss your needs with the reservations cast member when you book your trip. Although they cannot guarantee all your requests, they will make sure they get in the computer so that the front desk cast can see them. The front desk staff is very responsive and helpful - some of the best I have every met. They really go out of their way to make your stay magical.
