Fantasmic!
Fantasmic! is Disney's best show ever. Period. It's really indescribable,
but I'll try. Picture this: Mickey the Mouster dreaming about stirring music,
great fireworks and special effects, Disney animation projected onto 70mm
water screens located in the Rivers of America, Snow White, Ariel, and Belle
holding court on the Tom Sawyer Island rafts, a sword fight in the rigging of
Hook's pirate ship (Columbia in temporary drag) Peter Pan to the rescue of
Wendy and the boys! Then the Disney bad gals (Ursula and her cohorts) conjure
up an evil dragon and other meanies. The whole extravaganza ends with the Mark
Twain acting as ferry boat for Steamboat Willie and a crew of tens of Disney
Characters. It is the fastest-paced 25 minutes (including the post production
music) that Disney has ever put together. Barb and I have waited for over four
hours for this show several times...and it's worth it (but bring a book or a
pack of cards along).
It's hard to compare the two shows. Both use the same main theme
music and concept, but both feature unique scenes (along with appropriate
music) that make them both fun to see. The main negative about the
California version is that you don't have seating. However, the trade off
is that you're much, much, much closer to the action. The show unfolds
right in front of you. If you've seen Fantasmic! at the Studios at Walt
Disney World, you'll be blown away by Fantasmic! at Disneyland.
Fantasmic! Dessert Buffet
A very, very few seats are available for a dessert
buffet, held on the veranda of the Disney Gallery, upstairs over
New Orleans Square. The view of Fantasmic! is perfect and the delectable
snacks are great too. The cost, which doesn't include park admission,
is $43 per person. Very steep, but worth the price at least once
in a lifetime.
Reserving a spot for Fantasmic special seating used
to require getting up at the crack of dawn to wait in line for a
guest services window to open on the day of the show. No more. In
Spring 2002, Disneyland made it easier to obtain Priority Seating
reservations for Fantasmic special seating. Call (714) 781-4400,
between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., seven days a week, up to 30 days in advance
for seats in the Fantasmic Balcony in the Disney Gallery, or the
Fantasmic Premium Viewing area.
