Red Trolley Cars (operated by Greyline) used by most
resorts. Picks up at the bus stop 50 paces off the main lobby.
"K" Shuttle handles Portofino, Parkside, Anabella and Jolly
Roger. Runs every 1/2 hour, pick up at :07 and :37, departs
DLResort at :20 and :50 In the morning our shuttle was SRO and
they radioed for a backup that was there in about 3 minutes.
Excellent service. As it was s-l-o-w and uncrowded, the mid-day
shuttle ran hourly. |

Accommodations Review: |
This property used to be 3 older motels that had fallen on
hard times. The owner has combined them within 7 acres, gutted
and remodeled all old buildings and built new buildings. There
are 8 or 9 buildings in the Mission style and named after
California Missions. Over 350 rooms in 16 styles. We had a
King/Double in Santa Ines and it was vary large, clean and
nice. Double bed was "around the corner" Bathroom was split
with a dressing area, all granite tile, and the closet had a
safe. Iron, hair dryer and open fridge were included. Large
dresser, TV options include Games, Internet and Movies. Table
and 2 chairs and we had plenty of room. Some 1st floor rooms
have individual outdoor seating areas. Other room styles
include family suites, two rooms, bunk beds, day beds and more.
Only one building (Solano) has an elevator so keep that in
mind when making reservations. There is a guest laundry and
several places to sit outside including the Mission Gardens
between Santa Ines and San Diego. There is a large fountain in
front of the Santa Barbara building which adds to the
atmosphere, and the furthest back is San Rafael. While the
complex is on Katella we didn't hear traffic, but from outside
the room you hear the screams of joy from Maliboomer and CA
Screamin', which are right across the street. The convention
center is adjacent and the complex has meeting rooms and a
business center. |

Restaurant/Lounge Review: |
Tangerine is the restaurant and also handles the room
service. This is a quality restaurant, but also has early bird
dinners, free kids meals, afternoon snacks and picnic lunches
for trips, pizzas and handles the morning continental
breakfast as well as cooked breakfast to order. Early bird
meals are $13.95 and 1/2 price for kids, these are excellent 3
course meals. The lounge has 4-7pm happy hour. Evening meals
are expensive. Next door is Tiffy's, a family restaurant and
Ice Cream parlor, and across West St is Cocos, both offering
more standard but reasonably priced meals. |
Amenities / Facilities / Activities Available: |
Sundries Shop, Pool, Hot Tub, Health Club/Spa, Hair Dryer, Laundry, In-room Safe,

Pool Description/Comments: |
The main pool is large and new. It has a hot tub with it.
The main pool sits behind the lobby/restaurant/lounge/patio.
The quiet "adult" pool was an existing pool, smaller, but
looks right at California Screamin'. The Fitness Center is right next
to the quiet pool. |
Other Comments: |
(Note: The owner also has the Carousel Inn on Harbor) We
enjoyed the Anabella very much. Close and convenient, spacious
with excellent rooms. The maintenance crew works hard to keep
the quality up and aside from the fact that this is
essentially a motel, it has the feel of a resort. As mentioned
our room was larger and new, the older places have been
totally gutted and redone, many with 2 rooms turned into one
large family unit. I plan to post more information and photos
at www.vom.com/mitch/anabella.htm in the near future. Incidentally, a 3 night 3/4 day flex hopper package for 2 adults
would have been under $400 with 1/2 price rooms and Disney's
free day offered at this time.
