Note:
I received this message from Mr. Schiavone on April 12, 2000
regarding my stay in October 2000 and the review I posted regarding
that stay. In my defense, I must reiterate what I told
Mr. Schiavone in my reply. The reviews in these pages reflect
ONLY the experience that the individual reader has had... not a
full, formal review of the resort property in question.
However, to be completely honest and fair, I've included the entire
text of Mr. Schiavone's letter in it's entirety as a form of
"rebuttal.". Brian Bennett
Please allow me to introduce myself, my
name is Andy Schiavone and I am the General Manager of The Ramada
Plaza Hotel and Inn Gateway in Kissimmee, Fl. I have just reviewed
your review of my property from your stay here in October of 2000
and needless to say, I am disappointed, both in the fact that you
were not impressed with the hotel for the rate paid and in the
quality of your review.
In reviewing a hotel in the Disney area, I
would assume the question concerning a park shuttle availability
would be important enough to find out about rather than comment
"unknown", and as our hotel is one of the only hotels to
not only offer complimentary scheduled service to Disney, but to
Universal and Seaworld as well, I would have expected a bigger
positive than "unknown".
For Facility Type, as we are distinctly two
very different types of facilities within one, the two story,
exterior corridor section that you must have stayed in, and the
eight story high rise, interior corridor Plaza section that fronts
the property, I would have thought you would comment on that in some
way.
In the accommodations review, I agree, the
Inn rooms are not "Premium" nor do we claim them to be,
those rooms are at a higher price point in the Plaza portion of the
building. The Inn rooms do contain 2 Queen Size beds, (not doubles),
data port phones with voice mail, safes, and coffee makers. I
apologize for the safe, air-conditioning, television, and the toilet
not working properly, I assure you that is not the norm. I leave a
letter on the bed with my office extension on it for guests to
report any problems. I assure you when I get calls, the issue is
taken care of or the guest is compensated in some fashion.
We have on property a 240 seat restaurant
serving a great breakfast buffet from 7 to 11 and full dinner menu
from 5 to 10 pm with an all you can eat prime rib dinner that is
very popular. The Deli, next to the rest. is for quick snacks,
pizza, beverages etc.
The lounge, open 5pm till usually 1am
depending on business has Karaoke entertainment Tuesday. through
Saturday. and wide screen TV. While our Food and Beverage outlets
are not necessarily a destination in themselves, they are a good
value and very successful. We receive many great compliments, on
both food and service.
Other amenities include, fitness center
with 2 Startrac bikes, 1 Startrac treadmill, 1 Startrac stair
climber and a weight training station, located in the Inn portion of
the property. Additionally there is a small 18 whole putt putt
course, half court basketball court and 2 shuffleboard courts. There
is a great game room located off the lobby and a gift shop, ticket
sales and as of last week, Dollar Rent a Car in house. True, the
lower pool is not heated, but, we do offer two pools!
Brian, bottom line, if you are going to
review something, please try to do it thoroughly, not putting
information in that you don't know about, makes it look like it
doesn't exist, thus a negative review.
I'd like to invite you back for a personal
tour of the property, it seems you may have missed some of the
attributes of our hotel. Look forward to hearing from you.
Andy Schiavone
