Summer 2000 WDW Trip Reports
|
- Time of Year: Summer / Fall
- Travel Method: Personal Car / Plane, Rental
Car
- Resort: ASSR / Offsite
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Veteran
- Comments: I've put these two unique reports
together because they were both short visits in which Mark and
his wife Sandy helped their daughter Iris get settled in as
a new CM in the college program. The first trip was the
move down, the second was one in which Mark helped Iris with
the purchase of a car (really just another excuse for heading
down to WDW.) Mark, Sandy, and Iris managed to get some
park time in, too.
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Personal Car (Truck, actually)
- Resort: ASMoR
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Elementary, Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Rookie
- Comments: This is Mary's first trip report,
and its a good, long one. I've saved it for just after
the holidays because it's long enough to enjoy in front of the
fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate...and because it's set
in August and we all need a warm up at this time of year.
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Personal Car
- Resort: Offsite, DL
- Accommodations: Suite, Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Elementary, Teen,
Adult, Senior
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Frequent,
Rookie
- Comments: Peg opens the report with a
brief review of the Holiday Inn Family Suites and Dixie Landings,
where the family stayed during the trip. Following that
is a great play-by-play report of the rest of the vacation.
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Personal Car
- Accommodations: Villa Vacation Home (Tree House
Villa)
- Ages Represented in Group: Infant, Elementary,
Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Rookie
- Comments: This is a short report, but
is interesting because it's one of the very few in this archive
in which the author stayed in a VDI Tree House Villa.
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Plane, Shuttle Service
- Resort: PR
- Accommodations: Standard Room (two connecting
rooms), Tokelau Building
- Ages Represented in Group: Elementary, Teen,
Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Infrequent,
Rookie
- Comments: This is a blockbuster report
covering a weeklong trip to WDW by Katie and her family of eight
(two adults and a plethora of kids). If you like play-by-play
reports with lots of detail, you'll enjoy this one.
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Plane, Rental Car
- Resort: CBR, OKWR
- Accommodations: Standard Room, 2 Bedroom Vacation
Home
- Ages Represented in Group: Teen, Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Frequent,
DVC Member
- Comments: Cool! Another trip report
written by a teen! This one was written by 15 year-old
Casey, who participated in Magic Music Days this August - her
competition dance team performed on the Tomorrowland Stage.
This is a very detailed play-by-play report -- all from the
teen perspective.
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Plane, Rental Car
- Resort: Offsite
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Frequent,
DVC Member
- Comments: No one writes a summary-style
trip report like Andrew. There are several other reports
that he's provided over the last few years in the archive, and
each one is jam-packed with information. This is no exception.
If you want to really know what a trip in August is like, and
you want plenty of details in an easy-to-find format, here's
one for you.
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Plane, Shuttle Service
- Resort: PR, WL
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Teen, Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Infrequent,
Rookie
- Comments: Sandy is a relatively new WDW
junkie, having now taken two trips in the last couple years
with this third one planned. After providing a great pre-trip
report, Sandy followed-up with this fun-to-read play-by-play
report. It has a great list of highlights, too, if you're
not into reading every stitch of a long report.
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Plane, Rental Car
- Resort: ASMoR
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Frequent
- Comments: This is a great summary style
report covering Christin and Ron's summer trip to WDW.
It's billed as "The Last Hurrah" due to Christin's
pending Phd program, so they did things in grand style.
An excellent list of dinners with reviews is provided, too.
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Personal Car, Plane, Shuttle
Service
- Resort: ASMoR
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Primary, Secondary,
Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Veteran
- Comments: If you've never read one of
Larry's reports, read this one...then go through the archive
and read his 1999 report. Larry laces his excellent, detailed
narrative with the typical dry United Kingdom humor -- including
taking a few shots at those of us on this side of the Atlantic
that have been over to Europe twice this century to help out
Mr. Wilmot's countrymen when they couldn't deal with some scuffles
they'd gotten themselves into. (Sorry, but I couldn't
resist.)
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Plane, Shuttle Service
- Accommodations: Standard Room (Concierge Room
on the Grand Plan)
- Ages Represented in Group: Elementary, Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Veteran
- Comments: Judi's report is a great play-by-play
of a nice ten-day trip. The best thing, though, is that
Judi also posted (on the RADP newsgroup) follow-up reports on
the family's dining, concierge, and "Grand Plan" experiences.
I've tacked those reports on at the end of the regular trip
report.
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Plane, Shuttle Service
- Resort: ASMoR
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Elementary, Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Frequent
- Comments: Randy's report is a shorter
one, but jam-packed with helpful information for trip planning.
It covers the week-long trip in detail, but is written in more
of a daily summary style than a full-blown play-by-play.
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Personal Car
- Resort: ASMoR, ASSR
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Elementary, Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Frequent
- Comments: Kathy's family visited Florida
in late July and early August. The time that they spent
at WDW was sandwiched around some time in Tampa, but the trip
report covers only the Orlando time. The report starts
out as a play-by-play report, but the latter days are covered
in a summary style.
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Plane, Shuttle Service
- Resort: CR
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Elementary, Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Infrequent
- Comments: Marla and daughter Kara went to WDW
in July for a nice ten-day visit with the Mouse.
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Personal Car
- Resort: FWC
- Accommodations: Campsite (Fifth-Wheel Trailer)
- Ages Represented in Group: Elementary, Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Rookie
- Comments: In addition to providing a
great report on the overall trip, Gretchen gives some great
insight to having a family vacation at one of the first WDW
resorts...Fort Wilderness Campground!
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Personal Car
- Resort: Offsite, OKWR
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Elementary, Teen,
Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Veteran
- Comments: If you've never read one of
Sue's reports, read this one...then go through the archive (you
can do a simple search for "Holland" in the report
titles) and read her other ones. You can't read one of
these reports without learning something new...and getting jealous
that Sue can pop a four-day trip into her schedule at the drop
of a hat. Sue's pedometer readings (a feature of every
trip report) give you a good idea of how much walking you really
do when you're at WDW.)
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Personal Vehicle
- Resort: ASMoR
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Frequent
- Comments: When a couple of teens decided to
go to visit WDW as a college "road trip" in the Summer
of 2000, a great vacation resulted. A highlight of the
report is Ryan's incredibly detailed description of the Backstage
Magic tour that he and Cam took. Unfortunately, the report
remains unfinished, but the first several days worth of play-by-play
is well worth reading.
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Plane, Rental Car
- Resort: CR
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Elementary, Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Frequent
- Comments: I just have to quote Doug,
"Some great things I didn't know about, even though I have
been to WDW probably 8 times" and then he lists several
things. This is why WDW is such a great vacation place,
in my opinion. It's so expansive that it's impossible
to do everything in one trip. That leaves a bunch of stuff
for next time...
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Personal Car
- Resort: WL
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Teen, Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Veteran
- Comments: "Anne" is the pseudonym
for this trip report author. The report describes a trip
that "Anne" and her husband and daughter took in late
June and early July. It's written in a play-by-play style
and has a nice summary, too.
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Personal Car
- Resort: CSR
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Frequent
- Comments: This is the second trip report
by Li-Bong in the archive. This one, like the one from
July 1999, is a very detailed play-by-play report. It
has a lot of helpful trip planning information, as well as a
great description of the trip itself. Enjoy!
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Plane, Rental Car
- Resort: Offsite
- Accommodations: 2 Bedroom Vacation Home
- Ages Represented in Group: Elementary, Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Frequent,
Infrequent
- Comments: John and his family enjoyed
the Millennium goings-on for week in June. one of the
best features of this report is the excellent hints and tips
that John includes throughout the narrative.
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Plane, Shuttle Service
- Resort: PR
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Infant, Elementary,
Adult, Senior
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Infrequent
- Comments: This is a short report, but
Amy provides some interesting perspectives on going to WDW when
YOU'RE the grandparent.
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Personal Car
- Resort: Offsite
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Frequent
- Comments: Carol zipped down to WDW in
June for four days just because, her words, "she could."
Since she had an AP, and the kids and her husband had other
things going on for those days, she decided to drive down and
do an inexpensive visit. She stayed offsite to save money,
enjoyed the longer Summer park hours, and had a ball!
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Plane, Shuttle Service
- Resort: CBR
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Teen, Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Frequent,
Infrequent
- Comments: Jill's report is a very detailed
play-by-play describing her visit to WDW with her 13-year-old
cousin. If you like long, detailed reports you'll love
this one! Jill also has a great summary section at the
end of the report that you'll enjoy reading through, too.
- Travel Method: Plane, Rental Car
- Resort: PO, CR
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Elementary, Teen,
Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Veteran,
Frequent, Infrequent, Rookie, DVC Member
- Comments: This is a very rare treat...a
trip report written by a teen! Juliana (13) has put together
a fantastic description of her family's trip. It's always
great to read reports with unique perspectives, and a teenaged
girl certainly qualifies there. Besides covering WDW like
a glove, the Calhoun clan also visited USF and IOA.
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Personal Car
- Resort: DL
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Elementary, Teen,
Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Infrequent
- Comments: Greg's family visited WDW in
June and had a less-than-awe-inspiring experience at Dixie Landings
(you'll have to read the report). Along the way of this
well-written play-by-play, you'll find lots of information about
how to best enjoy your stay.
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Plane, Shuttle Service
- Resort: GFRS
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Infrequent
- Comments: Andrea and her Mom stayed at
the Grand Floridian for a four-day trip. They also met
up with Andrea's sister and her family during the visit.
This is a rare trip report in the archive that includes staying
at the Grand.
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Plane, Rental Car
- Resort: Offsite
- Accommodations: 2 Bedroom Vacation Home
- Ages Represented in Group: Elementary, Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Veteran,
Rookie
- Comments: Lisa and her family (including
Grandma and Grandpa) visited WDW in June. This report
provides daily descriptions of what happened, without getting
into the detail of a typical play-by-play. A nice summary
of hints and tips is provided at the end, too.
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Plane, Rental Car, Personal
Car
- Resort: BCR, CR, Offsite
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Veterans,
Frequent
- Comments: Can you say "Blockbuster?"
:) This is a huge report! It's 14th in size in the
whole archive and filled with tons of information that any trip
planner (or trip report junkie) can use and enjoy. If
you've been hungry for a fix, consider yourself covered for
a few days.
- Time of Year: Summer
- Travel Method: Personal Car
- Resort: BVR
- Accommodations: Standard Room (studio)
- Ages Represented in Group: Elementary, Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Frequent,
DVC Member
- Comments: The Callahan's spent ten days
at BVR in early June. This play-by-play report covers
each day, and although it doesn't go into excessive detail,
it does cover the highlights well. Deborah also provides
some great hints and tips throughout the report. The report
is written to compare the plans for the vacation with the actual
events.
