Fall 1999 WDW Trip Reports
|
- Travel Method: Plane, Shuttle Service
- Resort: ASMuR, DL, BCR
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Frequent
- Comments: Lori visited WDW in November,
and met up with several on-line friends during the nine-day
trip. She also stayed at three different resorts, so she
became well-acquainted with the bell services folks at the resorts.
Written in a play-by-play style, Lori provides plenty of detail.
- Time of Year: Fall
- Travel Method: Plane, Rental Car
- Resort: DL
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Elementary, Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Infrequent
- Comments: Roger and his family (including
a couple of barely-pre-teen boys) enjoyed a ten day respite
at WDW in the Fall. This is a fun report, filled with
details, suggestions, and comments. One of the few I've
seen come along in a while that has a fresher "almost newbie"
perspective.
- Time of Year: Fall
- Travel Method: Plane, Shuttle Service
- Resort: Plaza Hotel
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Accommodations: Suite
- Ages Represented in Group: Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Infrequent
(I prefer “Veteran-in-Training”)
- Comments: Sandy and her sister, Jean,
traveled to WDW in November for a little vacation together.
This is a nicely written play-by-play report with a nice list
of final thoughts and tips that punctuates it nicely.
(By the way, Sandy very nicely offered to meet Barb, Allan,
and I at the Minneapolis airport with Cinnebons in hand just
before our March 2000 trip to Disneyland. As it turned
out, with all the trouble we had with the airlines over Barb's
ticket, I'm glad we took a raincheck...but I still owe Sandy
one for her kind offer.)
- Travel Method: Plane, Shuttle Service
- Resort: WL
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Pre-Teen, Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Frequent
- Comments: Mary and Amanda, mother and
daughter team, decided to visit WDW while Mary's husband went
deer hunting in November. This is a very detailed play-by-play
of a wonderful trip!
- Travel Method: Personal Car
- Resort: ASMR
- Accommodations: Standard Rooms
- Ages Represented in Group: Teen, Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Frequent,
Infrequent, Rookie
- Comments: The Kelley troup visited WDW
and took advantage of every cost saving trick that can be imagined.
For one thing, this report explains the "Stars & Stripes"
passes that military folks and their dependants can purchase.
Otherwise, it's another typically detailed and fun-to-read report
from Carol.
- Time of Year: Fall
- Travel Method: Personal Car, Plane, Rental
Car
- Resort: WL, Offsite
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Veteran
- Comments: Since Bill, Kim's husband,
agreed to drive his mother's car to her summer home in Florida
for her, a quick stop at WDW seemed to be fair compensation.
In this report, Kim finally admitted that commando touring
isn't the best way to enjoy WDW. I love it when people
agree with me :)
- Time of Year: Fall
- Travel Method: Plane, Rental Car
- Resort: CR, OKWR
- Accommodations: Standard Room, 2 Bedroom Vacation
Home
- Ages Represented in Group: Elementary, Adult,
Senior
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Veteran,
Infrequent, Rookie, DVC Member
- Comments: This is a great play-by-play
report by Gaylene, who has contributed several times in the
past. If you like detailed reports that focus on opinions
and reviews, you'll be hard pressed to beat Gaylene's writings.
- Time of Year: Fall
- Travel Method: Plane
- Resort: ASMoR
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Elementary, Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Frequent
- Comments: This is a wonderfully detailed
summary-style report including a lot of detail about Mickey's
Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Although Diana did not write
the report in a play-by-play format, there is a wealth of information
and detail here.
- Time of Year: Fall
- Travel Method: Personal Car
- Resort: DL
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Elementary, Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Veteran
- Comments: Mickey and her family (including
Jessica, age 8 and Jessica's Grandma, Charlotte) drove over
from the Western shore of Florida for a week long stay.
This is another play-by-play that isn't too excessively detailed
(like my own reports tend to get), but flavored with wonderful
descriptions of a great trip.
- Time of Year: Fall
- Travel Method: Personal Car, Autotrain
- Resort: DL
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Elementary, Teen,
Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Infrequent
- Comments: In Sharon's own words, "I
thought some of the "lurkers" may be interested in
reading a trip report from the viewpoint of a more casual visitor."
This is a nice report, not too heavy on details, but presented
with the intent to provide information -- without giving a daily
play-by-play.
- Time of Year: Fall
- Travel Method: Plane, Rental Car
- Resort: PBR
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Frequent,
Rookie
- Comments: Anna and Rich visited WDW and
the unusual thing here is that the (almost) rookie in the family,
Anna, wrote the trip report. Rich, had visited five or
six times in the past. This is a nicely detailed report that
I'm sure you'll enjoy.
- Time of Year: Fall
- Travel Method: Plane, Rental Car
- Resort: PO
- Accommodations: Standard Room
- Ages Represented in Group: Adult
- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Infrequent
- Comments: Cyrus has written a very, very
detailed report with two characteristics that are worth noting.
First, the report covers a lot of Universal Studios territory
as well as the usual Disney information. Second, Cyrus
and his wife tackled the parks like Commandos (or maybe even
Navy Seals, as Cyrus points out). That's not my preferred
mode of touring, but if it's your style, here's some ideas on
how to do it.

- Comments: Judy and her family visited
for a quick weekend visit in early November. This is a
play-by-play report, but since the trip was only a few days
long, it's an easy one to read in one sitting. Enjoy!
- Time of Year: Fall
- Travel Method: Plane, Shuttle Service
- Resort: ASMuR
- Accommodations: Standard Room

- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Frequent,

- Comments: Patrick and his wife and daughter
visited just before Thanksgiving. During their stay, they
signed up to become DVC members, not a bad idea since the family
visits WDW every year. This is a quickly-paced play-by-play
report that I'm sure you'll enjoy.

- Comments: I just smiled when Kitty responded
to my request for permission to post her report with the following
note, "Gosh, don't know if my report is worthy of your
wonderful website, but you asked if anyone had recently posted
one. You are certainly welcome to add mine to your most excellent
site, if you think it's okay. Thanks for keeping up such
a great website. It's a big part of the reason I wrote this
- I have enjoyed so many of the reports on your site myself.
Please let me know if and how to send this to you, if you'd
like. :-)" How could I not include this one?
:) All kidding aside, this is a wonderfully written and
detailed play-by-play report. You'll want to get a fresh
cup of coffee before you start reading this one.

- Comments: Scott tacked some personal
time onto a business trip for this visit. It was a quick
trip, but he and his girlfriend had a great three-day visit
to the parks and resorts.

- Resort: Offsite

- Comments: Sue went on yet another business
trip and managed to get several days in at WDW. If you're
not yet a fan of Sue's reports, you really should read this
one....then back track and read her previous submissions.
Sue packs incredible detail into her reports, and laces them
with information that everyone can use in planning their own
trips.

- Comments: Andrew writes the best summary
style trip reports I've ever seen. They are so jam-packed
with information, that it's fun to read them just for the statistics
and details. If you don't like summary style reports,
give this one a try...Andrew just might convince you that you're
wrong :)

- Comments: My recent calls (in the Summer of
2002) for trip reports in my Notes From the World column prompted
Bob to dust off this report from three years ago. I'm glad he
did, because it's fun to read older reports sometimes just to
remember what it was like even just a few years ago now.

- WDW Experience Represented in Group: Rookie
- Comments: Timothy and his new bride Cathy
spent a wonderful honeymoon at Port Orleans. This is not
a terribly detailed play-by-play, but is actually an after the
fact "remembrances" report. Even so, it's a
fun to read report with great information about WDW and some
other Orlando area attractions.

- Comments: Tara's report is a bit on the
late side, but jam-packed with information. There's a
fantastic write-up of the All Star Movies Resort, plus a detailed
play-by-play of the trip.

- Comments: Sandie and their family traveled
all the way from Australia to visit Florida. They took
a cousin along for fun, stayed offsite (you can read about Sandie's
opinion on that), and thoroughly enjoyed their holiday.
This is a very detailed report. I'm sure you'll enjoy
it!

- Comments: Julie "had" to go
to the Orlando area on a business trip, so her husband and some
family friends joined up for the trip. This is a play-by-play
style report that is dripping with detail, so beware.

- Comments: Tom's summary report covers
a week long trip with his parents, brother, and girlfriend.
What makes this interesting is that a week later, Tom visited
Disneyland, so you can read his reports "back-to-back"
if you'd like.

- Comments: This trip included Debbie,
her mom, and her nine-year-old niece. It's a nicely written
report that covers the issue of how to get the most out of WDW
for an upper elementary aged kid very well. The report
is in a play-by-play style, and has tons of details. It's
also the first report I've had in a long time where the group
stayed at the Grand Floridian.

- Comments: Cora provides a great play-by-play
of the family's four day trip to WDW. In this nicely detailed
report, Cora describes how to deal with a 5 1/2 year old and
grandparents on the same trip. The family was able to
enjoy Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, as well as the
rest of the Millennium goings on.

- Comments: Anne and Drew visited WDW for
their anniversary (they honeymooned at WDW, too). This
is an excellent report with plenty of details. There's
a wonderful summary section at the end of the report, for those
folks that don't like to wade through the play-by-play details.

- Comments: Amanda and her husband took
Miles, their soon-to-be-one-year-old and Miles' grandparents
for a weeklong trip to WDW in early October. They stayed
at Cypress Palms, an offsite timeshare, and learned the lesson
that future trips will include on-site accommodations.

- Comments: Noreen and Paul enjoyed a week, spliting
their time between their Vistana timeshare and the Beach Club
Villas. Noreen's report is really detailed, and since I'm posting
this three and a half years after the trip occured, it's fun
to read back to see how things have changed.

- Comments: Amy's two best friends were
getting married, and decided to do it at WDW! This is
a fun report that includes, besides the information on the wedding
itself, a great play-by-play report of a trip that also featured
hurricane Floyd. A great summary wraps things up.

- Comments: David's report, from a trip
in September of 1999, is a summary-style one with a lot of detail.
David provides a lot of detail, and many, many comparisons between
Walt Disney World and Disneyland where he is a cast member.

- Comments: This was Mike's second trip
to WDW in 1999. Mike and Becca stayed at Shades of Green
with Becca's mom and dad (Bill is retired military, thus the
SoG connection). This is a great play-by-play report,
with details about a rarely-heard-about resort.

- Comments: In Michelle's words,
this is an "excruciatingly long" trip report.
Actually, that has a negative conotation...and this is anything
but a negative report. This was a honeymoon trip that
the Hopkins' enjoyed two months ahead of schedule (I'd love
to do that with one of my trips some time). Lots of details
and magic. Michelle, note that I've honored your request
to change the header "to Michelle Hopkins from Michelle
Wrightsman? (This was honeymoon trip, after all.) :)"

- Comments: Adam's report is a summary
style one in which he describes his opinions of each park attraction
(including many at Universal and Islands of Adventure) that
he and his friend enjoyed. This is a shorter report, but
packed with first hand experience from the interesting perspective
of two computer game programmers.

- Comments: Carol and her friend Sondra
spent four days at WDW in late September. Originally,
Carol had planned a solo trip. When Sondra decided to
join her the plans changed significantly. Some of the
report discusses the trade offs when planning a short trip.
There's an excellent summary list at the end of the report,
and Carol even gets in some ads for her own website (check it
out, it has a lot of valuable information).

- Comments: Quoting Sheri, "This was anything
but an uncomplicated trip. Throw in medical conditions and hurricanes
and you have one heck of a complicated vacation! I learned a
lot about flexibility and how not to be a tour guide. In fact,
I probably will never plan another Disney trip. I will still
go to Disney but I will not plan things to death. This report
is a lesson in changing plans and going with the flow. If you
are an intense planner ("at 8:30 we will be on Peter Pan"),
this report will shock you. The report is long and has the good,
the bad, and the ugly. Sit back, relax, and hold on while the
hurricanes wail."

- Comments: Kimberly and her husband David
met up with some friends for a week long stay at WDW.
This is an excellent report (even if Kimberly didn't mention
my site when she listed the resources she used to plan the trip
-- even though she told me she used my site as a resource when
she planned the trip.) If you want to read a detailed,
interesting report with some out-of-the mainstream information,
this is one for you.

- Comments: This report was written by
a student at the University of Central Florida in Orlando.

it's a short report....but filled with details about the new

- Comments: Sue and Chris, her now-teenaged
son, visited WDW just for a few days to celebrate Chris' birthday.
As always, Sue has done a wonderful job of describing the play-by-play
and summarizes with a nice list of special things that made
the trip especially nice.

- Comments: Julie sent me this report several
weeks ago, and I'm only now getting it on the site. Julie's
trip report describes a six day trip in a play-by-play style.
I'm sure you'll enjoy this one...give it a try!
