Brandon Kirkpatrick -- December 2000 -- Disneyland12/19 The trip was planned so that we'd arrive the night before, get a good night's sleep and spend the next day in the park. The Best Western Courtesy Inn is located right at one of the employee entrances to the park near the SE corner of Ball and Disneyland Drive. After getting settled in to the room we decided to "walk" over to the park and get our tickets while there were no lines. I knew the park was probably not easy to walk into anymore so we figured on walking over to the hotel. Surely we could buy tickets at either the hotel or the monorail station. To make a long story (and very long walk) short, we couldn't buy them at either place. The front desk at the hotel actually had the audacity to tell us they couldn't sell them to us unless we were staying there. Seems like they would WANT our money, no? We ended up taking a tram over to the main gate to buy tickets there. This was both of our first times visiting the park during the holiday. We were both VERY impressed with the park's holiday treatment. There are plenty of places to read about what Disneyland does during the holidays so I won't repeat them all here, rather I'll go over a few highlights of our trip. The crowds looked absolutely awful walking around the park. I'd heard this was one of the best times of the year to visit as the crowds were light and was beginning to wonder if someone had too much eggnog when they dispensed that advice. There WERE lots of people, it looked like somewhere around 40,000 but was difficult to judge with what FASTPASS does to the crowds. Instead of everyone standing in line, they're all out walking around. We used FASTPASS for pretty much everything and were able to ride INDY, The Haunted Mansion, Splash, Pirates, Autopia, Small World Holiday (VERY COOL!), Matterhorn, Space Mountain twice (no sound either time), HISTA, Star Tours, Disneyland Railroad, Tiki Room and the Christmas Bear show. All this and we even left for 2 hours to go get the chicken dinner at Knott's. Our night at the park ended just before the fireworks started (we missed the "snow" but had had enough of the crowds). Not the BEST visit to the park, but very, very good considering all the people. I really like the apple churros too! They should offer these year 'round.
