Julia Rudden -- February 2000 -- DisneylandDisneyland with a 3 month old -- 12-15 February 2000 For those interested in how we handled our trip to Disneyland with our 3 1/2 month old daughter, here is a little trip report. I'm mostly a lurker here, but found similar reports and discussion threads quite helpful while planning this trip. First, we all had a great time! We left on a Saturday and returned on a Tuesday, which worked out well. The park was very crowded on Saturday and much less so the remaining three days. Also, the weather was overcast and rainy (which we did not mind) so that kept the crowds down. We bought Kiera a ticket on the plane so we could bring her car seat. I'm really glad we did because it seemed so much safer. Also, she slept through most of the flight. I nursed her during take-off, and she went to sleep. Then, after we arrived, she slept in the shuttle van from the airport to our hotel. :-) We stayed in a hotel right across the street from the Disneyland Main Gate, so we could walk to the park in about 5 minutes. That was great! For those interested, it was the Best Western Park Place Inn. An ok hotel, but great location! We had borrowed a stroller frame from friends--it's one of the kind that you snap your own car seat into. It was really helpful; we would have gotten tired fast from carrying her in her front carrier. Also, since it was rainy, the hood of the car seat kept her somewhat dry. As for the park, she loved it! Babies can ride on everything but the roller coasters, so we took her on rides. She rode the Jungle Cruise twice, Pirates of the Caribbean three times, Tarzan's Treehouse, the Haunted Mansion (she did not like that one! Too much screaming...), lots of the FantasyLand rides, and the train. We used the switching off option so we could ride the big rides. DH or I would wait in the regular line, and once done with the ride, the other got to go back through the exit and get right on. That worked out well. The Cast Members made it so easy. She was a big hit with the Cast Members: everyone smiled at her including Mickey Mouse:-). She only had one little breakdown. On our last day, when we had about an hour left in the park, she just started crying inconsolably. DH walked her up and down Main Street in her front carrier until she fell asleep, then I fed her. We used the Baby Center for most of our diaper changes and nursing times. It was quiet, clean, and comfortable. Then changing tables had high rims so they felt much safer than the little ledges in the bathrooms. Also, the nursing area was a quiet respite from the noise and excitement outside. I did nurse her in the Park, but she often found it hard to settle in and eat, because of the things to look at and listen to. Our trip back was just as good. She slept in the shuttle van, and through a fair amount of the plane ride. All in all, I'm really glad we went. DH and I had a great time, and so did Kiera. Oh, DH took me out to lunch at the Blue Bayou restaurant (the one that looks out over Pirates of the Caribbean!)
