Tuppence Evans -- October 2000 -- Walt Disney World (WL, CR)Disney World 10/28-11/2 My sister, my brother in law, and I headed to Florida for a whirlwind vacation. It was my 5th trip, her 4th and his 1st. We had one night at the Wilderness Lodge and the rest at the Contemporary, as well as dinner plans for Cinderella's Castle, Alfredo's, and the California Grill. We were also planning on going to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween party Sunday night, La Nouba Monday night, and Pleasure Island on Halloween itself. 10/28-10/29 We flew in Sat and took Tiffany to the Wilderness Lodge, where they upgraded us to a junior suite. The lobby of the lodge is amazing and I loved the stream inside the hotel running out to form the pool. The room was nice and plenty big enough for the three of us. We spent the rest of Sat at the MK walking around and getting accustomed to being back at Disney. We rode some rides, including the monorail all the way around, and watched the fireworks on our way into the castle for dinner. Dinner was very good and the chef came out to talk to the vegetarians in our party. Sun was more MK, after transferring hotels to the Contemporary. We ate lunch in Adventure Land and supper at the Food and Fun snack center in the hotel, which was much tastier than I had expected. The Halloween party was a lot of fun and my souvenir picture came in the mail yesterday. We were by no means the only adults there alone, but there were amazing numbers of very small children in the cutest costumes, most of whom were asleep. 10/30-10/31 Mon and Tues were our Epcot days and we spent Mon playing with all the cool gadgets in Innoventions and watching manatees in the Living Seas and Tues in the World Showcase. We didn't get through either section completely--it would've taken another day--but we saw as much as we could comfortably. Lunches were eaten at the Sunshine Food Fair (excellent veggie lasagna) and grazing through the World Showcase and dinner were at Alfredo's in Italy (the pasta alfredo was indescribable) and at the California Grill (the veggie sampler plate could feed three people and was very, very good). La Nouba on Mon was mesmerizing. I had only seen the Cirque on TV so it was well worth the rather expensive tickets to see them live. Afterwards we headed over to DisneyQuest to play video games and skee ball for an hour as a preview of the next night. We went there first Tues night and then went to dance at Pleasure Island--we club hopped till they closed, but got there too late for anything to be happening at the Adventurer's Club. (We did find that the Contemporary staff had left us a glow in the dark mug for Halloween, which was really sweet) 11/1-11/2 When we woke up Weds, we were exhausted still, so we bagged the Animal Kingdom and spent the day using up our flex features. First my sis and I headed to the Grand Floridian spa for massages, which was just we needed after all that intensive theme parking, and afterwards we walked out to the wedding pavilion (it is so beautiful). The boy met us at the marina where we rented water mice and then after an hour or so of speeding around the lake and lagoon getting wet and a little sunburned, we capped off the perfect afternoon with tea overlooking the garden. Miniature golf seemed like a good idea after that, so it was off to the Fantasia golf course for 18 holes of interactive miniature golf fun. DisneyQuest was the plan for the evening, after a couple of hours of shopping in Downtown Disney, mostly at the World of Disney, where I was surprised that no one got irretrievably lost. That didn't seem like a good place to take kids at all. My sis and I finished our holiday shopping, had everything shipped home, and then walked down the street to finish up our last night with some Living Easel and Sid's Toy Chest, along with some VR games and, of course, more skee ball. Thurs we had a plane to catch, so we packed, did a little last minute shopping on the 4th floor and then climbed back in the Tiffany car for the long, sad ride back to the airport. All in all, it was a great trip with a few glitches caused by some staff member who were perhaps still in training (at one point I called to ask about a vegetarian meal and the woman at the front desk asked if that was the same as kosher), but nothing that overshadowed our fun. I'm already planning next year's trip since the park and I have the same birthday. Tuppence Evans tuppence@panix.com Mail a Comment to Tuppence Evans |
