Jacqui Kasket -- September 2000 -- Walt Disney World (PO)1 - 15th September Having been back from the world for a week or so I am now getting over post Disney depression! Spent the time at the PO (by the way I did not miss Bonfamilles - pleased to see the boat still running to DD and another boat to Dixie for Boatwrights) (I need to book next years to really feel better!). Whilst I admire Larry's stamina I don't think a two week day by day account in within my reach. So... here are the highs and lows of the trip (Disney veteran of 20 years from the UK) in no particular order. Highs 1) The RADP villains dinner! I was great to meet names behind the faces, and I really enjoyed myself, so thanks to Lori for arranging it and here's to many more. I even enjoyed the villains, though it was a pity that the Queen of Hearts wouldn't trade the GF for my pin bag which she was so interested in. She only wanted to give me a doormat! 2) Pin Trading! - I swore before I went that I wasn't going to get into this. Well.... that soon went by the board. I now own more pins than I ever expected to (plus the bag). Had a blast talking to people and inspecting lanyards. Got thrilled when I spotted and traded to Disneyland pins and wished I had taken more Disneyland Paris fifth anniversary pins with me. So now when I go to DLP it will be going with me!! As a person who travels on their own I never have a problem talking to people but this was unique. So if you are out there and traveling alone - go for it. 3) Millennium Village. This surprised me. Its not so much for what's in it, but for the atmosphere which I thought was great. Lots of young people talking to guests and interacting with each other. For me its like world showcase should be but isn't - alive. I am sorry its going. 4) Titanic - Ship of Dreams - Yes I know its not Disney but its great. First visit and I really enjoyed it. Great actors excellent sets (I was really impressed when we went to the boat deck after the ship had hit the berg and the temperature was really freezing (lovely on a hot Florida day) We had an exhibition in London when the film came out which was not a patch on this. Only thing on the downside was no pictures allowed, I really wanted to have my picture taken on the grand staircase! I think they miss a trick here as I would have been prepared to pay for them to do it. 5) Oh my word the Rock and Roller Coaster. Up until now I have avoided coasters that go upside down, but decided this was my year for going for it. After lots of conversations with cast members (was I going to fall out, will the seat take someone my size, can I bail out in the queue) I arrived at my FP time and gingerly got into the seat. - I loved it, it was so smooth) Mind you I didn't see much of it as I had my eyes closed most of the time!!! However, all the CM's knew and I ended up with a 2000 magical moments certificate for my first ride!! I'll be going again. 6) As usual for me going shopping and buying lots of clothes - sorry its not Disney but its one of the reasons I go! 7) Men in Black Alien Attack- Went to the studios as I hadn't been for a number of years and liked this, frankly I think its better than buzz. 8)Illuminations -Reflections of Earth - having seen all of these for me this is definitely the best ever! Lows 1) Tapestry of Nations - Nice idea but far too long its repetitious 2) Villains Dinner food - I had never been to a Florida buffet Disney style. My only experience is the DLP hotel one which by the way is excellent. This one I felt was poor. 3) Having a non Disney moment at the PO when my door key wouldn't work in the middle of one afternoon. Kept waiting for over an hour for someone to let me in and then another 3 hours before a phone call to the hotel manager to get it fixed, very un-Disneylike! 4) IOA - Went here again and with the exception of Jurassic Park and Superman which I think are both excellent this begins to pall for me, I am only just tipping my toe into the water in thrill ride terms. As well as this I object to having to walk through escape to get there. 5) California Grill - Decided to treat myself on the last night and wished I hadn't. Its expensive (this should not have been a problem) but for me the food is mediocre and served lukewarm. Well maybe I have a fetish about hot food, but that's the way I like it! 6) The animal kingdom. They really need to do something about this. For me its a half day park and I only visited it once, unlike everything else as I had a UMP there is just not enough to do. Well that's about it, hop you have enjoyed a little peek into my trip, even hurricane free (unlike last year when I was caught in Floyd!!)
