Jennifer Reall -- September 2000 -- Walt Disney World (CSR)

I just can't get inspired to write my trip report for my latest trip so instead I'm just going to tell you the great stuff. I was there from 9/23 to 9/28 with my mom who hasn't been to WDW since 1977. We stayed at Coronado Springs in the Cabanas section.

1) Coronado Springs was great! Our room was near the laundry and the quiet pool and about a 2 minute walk from the main pool and a 4 minute walk from the main building. We ate most of our breakfasts at the Pepper Market which had good food and reasonable prices. We bought refillable mugs and used them many times. I would definitely stay there again. No problems with conventioneers, etc.

2) I highly recommend the Electric Water Pageant. We did this our first night because my mom did not have park access. I think it is equal to MSEP (no flames please). I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was my first time to see it and we watched from the beach at the Polynesian so it was a nice atmosphere as well.

3) I got to meet some great people! We had dinner with Jennifer and Dave of Passporter fame at the Portobello Yacht Club at Downtown Disney. We had iced cappuccinos with the Evil Paragon and her mom (who is not evil) at the Fountainview in Epcot. I met Bruce as I ran (I mean walked rapidly) by him on the train platform (sorry, Bruce). I look forward to spending more time with all of these great folks at RADP-V in December.

4) I finally saw the Hunchback show at Disney/MGM and it was as good as everyone said it would be! I also got to see Matt the Juggler for the first time. Is he single? Oh wait, I'm not.

5) Had some great food! Crystal Palace for lunch (Citrus Marinated Flank Steak). Chef Mickey's for dinner (Parmesean Mashed Potatoes). Le Cellier for lunch (cheddar cheese soup, 5 oz sirloin). Sunshine Season Food Fair (what a find, great counter service with great CMs). Also had two Kaki Goris over the course of my stay. Yum.

6) Found some good buys at the Character Warehouse at Belz. Long sleeve Grumpy shirt, Classic Pooh nightgown, 2000 tank top, & Grumpy magnet for only $36. At the parks I got one of the black shoulder bags that says Walt Disney World where each letter of Disney looks like a different character. At World of Disney I purchased some Grumpy slippers and I finally broke down and bought the making of AK video that I've had my eye on (haven't watched it yet).

7) I rented a water mouse for the first time. I did this at the Polynesian because I wanted access to more water. Very fun although a little scary if you encounter big waves : ).

8) The highlight of the trip was definitely Illuminations 2000 which I've managed to miss on my previous two Millennium Celebration trips but saw it twice this time around. We didn't get a spot early enough the first night because I didn't think my mom would want to wait for too long. Our view was obscured by trees but we got the gist. On our last night I had been thinking about seeing it again but hadn't said anything to my mom. Partway through the day she said "You know what I'd really like to do tonight? Go back and see Illuminations again...and do it right." That was all the encouragement I needed. We arrived at the International Gateway just as the first Tapestry of Nations parade was starting. We watched from France and as soon as it was over we scouted out a location. We found the perfect spot in Canada with a bench that could be turned around to face the water. We sat down at 7:07 PM and began our one hour and 53 minute wait. We took turns getting something to eat and using the MillVill bathrooms (I did finally get a picture). The time passed rather quickly with my mom chatting to the ladies next to us. WOW. It was worth the wait! I can't wait to see it from the boat in December.

Thanks for reading!

Jenn : )

PS. I was looking for a beer during my Illuminations wait so since we were next to a beer stand in Canada, I went there. I left my ID in the car and the CM wouldn't sell me a beer so I went to the UK where they were more than happy to take my $6.00 for a pint of bass. I tried to show the Canadian CM my gray hair and pointed to my mom so she could vouch for me but no go : )
