Rosie Kay -- June 2002 -- Walt Disney World (GFRS)Finally I am going to achieve my goal of the last seven years - take my seven year old niece and my four year old nephew for their first visit to my favorite place - WDW. Sorry, this is going to be a long one - I like details... The Players: (All early risers, thank goodness)
The Plan: 4 nights and five days of togetherness to celebrate Fathers Day and Dad's 80th birthday earlier this year. As the Disney Nut, I agreed to plan the whole trip. We decided a monorail resort was best for Dad and his scooter so nixed the Animal Lodge idea and picked the Grand Floridian instead. Requested connecting rooms for my brother and my parents (built-in babysitters!) and told them the special occasion of Dad's 80th. Picked the Discovery Magic Package for all because we will probably want to do at least one water park afternoon and are all "foodies" so Magical Wishes will be great for meals. We are not going (planning) to overexert anyone on this trip (kids or grandparents). We will do half-days in the park and then time for naps, swims, golf, massages, etc. January Booked the hotel packages (lagoon view) and airfares from Boston and New Jersey. I live in South Florida so will drive a rented mini-van which we can use during the stay. KF arrives on Day Two via Southwest Air. Also reserved the Electric Cart (ECV) from Walker Mobility in Orlando who had great recommendations about WDW by ECV. They will deliver it to the GF the night before we arrive. Dad thinks he can walk himself, but it would take us all day to get down Main Street so he agreed to use the ECV. 90 Days EXACTLY Booked PS for Jikos, Flying Fish Café and Narcoossee's (for Fathers Day). Have to wait until 60 days for the Brown Derby. KF and I wanted to go golfing on two days, but the tee times were almost all gone (how does that happen?). Also found out that we could have started calling at 6AM rather than 7AM. Who knew? Not me! Booked one tee time for KF, M&D and I at 7AM Sunday morning. Booked Richard Petty Driving Experience for KF and ALK too. 60 Days EXACTLY Started calling for Cinderella's Round Table at 6:55AM. When I finally got through at 7:03AM - NOTHING!!! Oh well, booked Chef Mickey's instead for Friday at 7:30AM. Also 1900 Park Fare for departure day 7:30AM. Got the Brown Derby, but couldn't get the time we wanted so we will probably miss the parade. 45 Days EXACTLY Called for VIP seating for Illuminations (which they call EPCOT Fireworks - I found this confusing, why not call it Illuminations?) for RK, ALK and BB. Tried to get the same for the Magic Kingdom, but they could not find it in the system. The CM (who was not very friendly) told me it was all booked up. When I asked how this could be he asked his supervisor who told him that it was not actually available yet (glad I asked). He told me to try back closer to the trip. E-mailed Brian Bennett some advice about room requests. THANKS Brian for all your suggestions. I called and the CM made a note of Dad's limited mobility and my request for rooms with a MK view for the built-in babysitters. We'll see. We all agreed on the park schedule ahead of time (I plan, but decisions are a group thing). I included all the special events like 'e-ticket night' and the 'character caravan' just for planning purposes. We'll see what we actually wind up doing. EPCOT was left out of the plan for this trip - the kids will enjoy the other parks more. If all goes well, we'll be back again together. The "grown-ups" (less the built-in babysitters) will hit EPCOT at night. 5 Days EXACTLY Called the Room Controller at the GF and asked (as nicely as I could) for two connecting rooms and one nearby with a great view of the MK (preferably Sago Cay). She had already seen my reservation and had assigned us rooms in Big Pine Key with a view of the Polynesian. Oh well, at least two rooms are connecting and mine is not. 1 More Day Picked up the mini-van tonight, only seats seven, but we'll squeeze in the eighth. Packed up most of the supplies and suitcases, including cases of water and soda. Some other "essentials":
Confirmed the Tiffany Towncar reservations and D's ECV. Cannot wait until tomorrow. I'll go to sleep early so that I can get on the road by 6:30am. Thursday, 6/13 Kissed my puppies (and KF, of course) goodbye and on the road at 6:30am on the nose. This is a really boring drive from South Florida up the Turnpike, but I put on the show tunes and sang my way to Disney World. My biggest pet peeve with WDW is that some of the road signage is difficult to follow. How come the signs to EPCOT Resorts are so big and signs to the Magic Kingdom and its resorts are so small. I missed the turnoff, doubled back and then missed the right toward the resorts - found myself in the MK Parking Lot instead of headed towards the GF. Good thing they will refund my $6 parking fee. Finally arrived at 9:20am and waited only 3 minutes for check in. David was wonderful. He let me check in all three rooms and gave me all the Discovery Magic info and perks for all of us. AND lo and behold all three rooms were ready for us to move right in. As the bellman and I were walking I asked if the views from Big Pine Key were nice and he said "you are in Sago Cay, not Big Pine Key. And you have the nicest rooms in the whole hotel!" Thank you Room Controller. We all had rooms with balconies overlooking Cinderella's Castle and Space Mountain (two connecting rooms, one down the hall). YEAH!!! GF is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever seen. Very elegant, but not stuffy. The CMs are all dressed in turn-of-the-century clothing and it feels like you have stepped back in time. Even if you don't stay here, it is worth a visit. The rest of the gang arrived by noon (what a wonderful greeting from PK, who was as excited to see me as I was her) and we unpacked and did a quick lunch at Gasperilla Grill & Games. A very good and healthy selection for a fast food restaurant. Only problem was getting AJK away from the video games! Gave D a quick lesson on how to use the ECV. Disney makes it very easy to travel with people who are physically challenged in any way. The biggest problem is the Guests who fail to notice that an ECV is coming and step in front of them. Hopefully D does not run anyone over! Our system was to have ALK or I walk in front of D (kind of clearing a path) and he followed us. FYI: Disney is also terrific for hearing or visual impaired Guests. Just ask at Guest Services. The bus to MGM arrived within 5 minutes and we loaded the ECV on (my job). Security lines moved quickly. Into the park and rented a stroller for the kids. By 1:30 we were off and running. I love the view down Hollywood Blvd. It really gets you into the 'movie' feeling. And since Sorcerer Mickey is one of my favorites, I kind of like the new 100 Years hat. Beauty and the Beast - Live on Stage was our first stop. ALK and I dropped M &D, BB, PK & AJK off there and went to get Fastpasses for Tower of Terror and Rock N Roller Coaster (used the kids tickets for the extra set!). Only had to wait 20 minutes for our FP time for TOT. ALK had never been on it and I did not tell him anything about what to expect. As much fun as I remembered - and big brother yelled as loud as I did! I love the theming in this ride. Pure Disney Magic in the details. We looked goofy (hahaha) in the photo, so no sale. Picked up the gang. Everyone loved Beauty & the Beast. M said that she enjoyed it almost as much as the Broadway version. We headed towards Al's Toy Barn for 3pm visit with Woody and Buzz (AJK's favorite Disney character). It is hard to find this place, but we made it. Waited 45 minutes (which we agreed we will not do again), but this one time it was worth it. AJK was speechless when he stood next to Buzz. He forgot his autograph book, but PK ripped some pages out of hers for her little brother. M & D got in the picture too (although D had no idea who these guys were!) Muppet 3D was just about to start as we walked by, so we ran for it. It was cute, definitely for the kids, but the 3D effects are always fun for grownups too. Too hot for Honey I Shrunk the Kids (at this point we were all eating lemon ice and drinking water like crazy - 90% humidity and 93 degrees). Missed the Monsters Inc characters, and sent ALK to ride Rock N Roll by himself (I'm a weenie). Bumped into Tigger and Pooh, with minimal wait times, so more autograph book signings and photos. PK asked me if the characters were real or if there were people inside them. I told her that WDW is a magical place and all the characters are indeed real. Heck, I believe it when I am here, why shouldn't she! M & D and I decided to check out the Great Movie Ride and last minute BB and the kids joined us. No wait at all! Grownups loved it (as always), but the kids were a little scared of the gangster and the Alien portion of the ride. It is best to warn them ahead of time (although the warning did not help our munchkins). Time for PS at the Brown Derby. I had brought two-way radios with us so I tried to reach ALK and tell him where we were. Boy, I wish there were etiquette classes on how to use these. There was one family having a whole conversation for about 20-30 minutes. It was not related to where they were or where to meet, just normal chatty conversation. Finally I asked them to let someone else use that frequency for a while. If you are going to use the radios, you may want to pick two frequencies to try. Waited 15 minutes to be seated. Service was a little slow, especially for drinks and bread - and boy were we hungry and thirsty. The atmosphere at the Brown Derby is really nice - and it is very air conditioned. I love the caricature silhouettes on the walls. Magical Wishes get you an appetizer, entrée, soft drink, dessert and coffee or tea. The food was all good, not outstanding. The appetizers were the best part of the meal (I think for all of us). By the time we were ready for dessert the kids were beyond tired. CM offered to pack it up to go. Grapefruit cake, cheesecake and chocolate macadamia torte for the chocoholic (me). One set of receipts did not show that the gratuity was included, so I tipped big. Then when I signed the other receipts I noticed that 15% WAS included. I asked the CM if gratuity was included and he said yes, so I asked for my folder back (he had not opened it yet). I am a good tipper, but 35% is pushing it! We moseyed (my favorite way of saying 'went at a very leisurely pace') out of MGM and back to the bus. No wait, and again it was handicapped equipped. Back in the rooms by 7:45pm, and I was the only one up for more. ALK had only slept 2 hours the night before, BB had a headache, and M & D had gotten up too early. I was determined to see Illuminations, so off to the monorail and into EPCOT by 8:30. I forgot how much of EPCOT you can see from the monorail. I walked quickly to the World Showcase (OK, I stopped at the new Coca-Cola Ice Station Cool - it looks like the north pole, is really air conditioned and has samples of sodas from around the world for free at the end). I decided to watch Illuminations as I walked from country to country. I think Japan was the best location for viewing. I love Illuminations, it always makes me happy to watch. I took my time exiting and stopped to shop a little on the way out. Bought new autograph pens for the kids (they broke one already today). Made it back to the GF in time to see the MK fireworks from the marina. All in all a good first day. Misses Day One:
Friday, 6/14 Wake up call at 6:31am (hi Mickey!). We have a PS at Chef Mickey's at 7:30. It is very difficult to get 7-8 people going on the same schedule, even if they are all early risers. Picked up M&D, BB and the kids and the ECV and headed out at 7:15. Monorail access from the GF is so easy, even with the ECV. Getting off was more of a challenge - CM asked me to do it since D is still a little awkward. By the time we got to Chef Mickey's it was 7:45 and we had to wait for @15 minutes. I bought the kids chefs hats for autographs and we all met Chef Goofy and took pictures. AJK kept running up to him in front of the other Guests and we had to keep pulling him back to wait his turn. He was even more excited when he spotted Chef Mickey. His mouth dropped open and he whispered, "There's Mickey!" That was it. The whole trip is made for me in just that one moment. This is a fabulous buffet, with a huge variety of foods, including Mickey Waffles. All the characters made it to the table within 45 minutes and we had great fun singing and waving our napkins with the CMs. ALK asked a CM to charge his camcorder battery while we ate and they were happy to do it! Off to the Magic Kingdom by 9:15 - missed the opening, but what can you do. Again quickly through security and the Ticket Takers and stroller rental. Main Street USA is my favorite part of MK. I love walking down the street towards the Castle and looking at the names in the windows above the shops. I try to see how many I can identify. Out goal was Fantasyland first, but needed to stop for a photo in front of Walt (my hero) and Mickey. Now there are even lines for this! Waited 10 minutes just to take a picture. PK wanted to know if the Princesses were awake yet. I told her it was too early because they were entertaining Guests at the Castle late last night - she would meet them later. Parked the ECV for the morning near Peter Pan and while ALK ran for Fastpasses for Winnie the Pooh, we all got in line. Well, we thought it was all. It seems PK was still standing next to the stroller. BB realized she was missing and I went running back just in time to see PK about to burst into tears and two nice women about to comfort her. Tragedy averted. A big hug and all was forgotten - who would think that four grownups would have so much trouble keeping track of two kids and one ECV-bound grandfather? Our favorite phrase the whole trip was "where's AJK?" ALK met up with us for Peter Pan and the CMs were great in helping us get D on and off the ride (since the 'pirate ships' don't stop). PK and BB loved this ride and immediately wanted to go again. Maybe later. No line for It's a Small World so that was next. BB wanted to do it again too. (She and I are really the kids in the group, I think.) On to Dumbo. I sat with PK and ALK and AJK rode together. BB tried to catch us on video, but I think she had a hard time figuring out which elephants we were in as we went by. Time for the Winnie the Pooh Fastpasses. I had never been on this and it was just like riding through the pages of the book. The kids loved it! PK says that she is too old for Pooh now when she is at home (he's not cool for a seven year old), but she really loves him. ALK ran ahead for Fastpasses to Big Thunder and Splash Mountain for he and I, while we cooled off with some ice cream. Four rides in under two hours (with some shopping thrown in too). Not bad! PK wanted to ride the Carousel next and then we were going to split up. ALK and I off to some "grown up rides," everyone else to Cinderella's Surprise Celebration, Main Street shopping and back to the hotel for lunch. Big Thunder Mountain is still my favorite roller coaster. Once again, great theming. Splash Mountain too, although the drop goes too quickly. I could not believe it was over so fast. Did I mention how much I LOVE FASTPASS? No wait for either of the Mountains. Still looked 'goofy' in the photo so we did not buy this one either. A quick stop at the Pecos Bill Café for lunch. Some of the windows in front were closed. I guess they are still down some in their numbers. We were even able to find a table (@1:30pm). ALK was dying for an iced coffee, but could not find one anywhere, not even the bakery. When it is 90 degrees somehow hot coffee is not appealing. Looked for the Father's Day pin, but not out until Sunday. No real shopping for me, yet. But I made my first pin trade for a Pooh Golfer Pin. I was sooo excited. I had bought some WDW Marathon Pins at my Disney Character Shop at home for $2.50 and now I am going to trade away! Caught the boat back to the Grand Floridian for the afternoon. It's a really pretty ride. It seems the rest of the family had trouble getting back. D's ECV decided not to work. The kids did not want to see Cinderella's Surprise Celebration (too hot - wanted the pool) so they did some shopping and went to the monorail. Could not get the ECV on and then off the monorail. Thank goodness for Disney CMs. They were wonderful and finally got D off the train. He swore he would not use the ECV again, but Walker Mobility immediately delivered a new one and I promised to stick by his side from now on. While I waited for KF to arrive ALK and went to the pool with the kids (BB went to work out) and I joined them later. Great water slide! Swimming in the rain, a new experience for non-Floridians, but as long as there is no thunder and lightning, it's kind of fun. KF's flight was delayed so we all went to dinner at the Animal Kingdom Lodge (Jiko 5:30 PS) in the minivan and KF met us there later via taxi ($$$). WOW! What a hotel. It is gorgeous. Of course it was pouring so we could not really see much outside, but I will be back to stay here, no doubt. KF arrived just in time to order dinner. ALK had to leave tonight until tomorrow night (long business story), so we asked for his food first. Outstanding service at Jiko. I love how they explain the meaning of the various Swahili words that are used on the menu and in the Lodge. We were the first ones there, so we were really catered to. Once again outstanding appetizers, but this time the entrees were also terrific. Braised lamb shank (didn't even need a knife to cut it) and the monkfish (their specialty) were the two favorites. Desserts were just so so. ALK left and since it was still raining we just visited the shop (great African themed gifts) and headed back to the Grand Floridian. Walked around the hotel, watched the water parade and the fireworks (from bed - I love this!) and passed out. I guess I'll have to wait until another visit for E-Ticket Night. Misses Day Two:
Saturday, 6/15 Another wake up call at 6:31am (hi Mickey!). Breakfast at the Grand Floridian Café was excellent. Smoothies for the kids and a Japanese Breakfast for BB with seaweed, tofu, miso soup, rice and other strange breakfast (?) items. She thought it was great (I thought it was weird). AJK loved his M&M pancakes. I asked a CM to stop by to trade pins with PK - she was thrilled with her Minnie pin and wore her lanyard all day. KF went to workout and then will meet us at the Animal Kingdom. I loaded D's ECV onto the bus and the driver gave me a WDW Safe Driver certificate. Can I use that to lower my insurance? Hahaha. My first visit to the Animal Kingdom and I am very excited. I know we are only going to see a fraction of the park today, but it will wet my appetite for the next visit. Arrived at 9:10 (can't seem to get anywhere for opening) and the line for strollers was huge. D, his ECV and I decided to "run" for the Fastpass for Kilamanjaro Safaris. 10:20-11:20, I hope the animals are still out because it is hot. Checked out Mombassa Marketplace (and bought the newly arrived KF a Mickey Safari Hat). Then head back to meet the gang and explore some of the Discovery Island Trails. Of course it now begins to rain. We put the Wal-Mart ponchos on M&D and the kids (and run to cover the ECV) and return for the Safari. As we got on the bus it began to POUR! This must have been good for the animals because we saw tons of them. Hippos, rhinos, zebras, elephants, lions, giraffes, cheetahs (and many, many more I could not even name). This is an outstanding ride! Of course when we got off it was still pouring - this is when I regretted not buying ponchos for the rest of us too. Broke down and bought three more and within minutes it stopped raining! Took some time to look at the Tree of Life. It is truly incredible how they carved all those animals into this 14 story sculpture. Next time I'll spend more time exploring it. Everyone said not to miss the Festival of the Lion King, that it is the best show in all of WDW. It's got my vote. They allowed us in early with the ECV and sat us up front in the Giraffe Section. The music, dance and acrobatics are fabulous as are the costumers and the audio-animatronic characters. PK did a "Home Alone" pose (hands clapped to her face) when the flame juggler put the flaming baton on his feet. The best part - both PK and AJK were selected to participate in the last part of the show. I don't know who was more excited, the kids or their crazy family (me included - who acted like the kids were the stars of a Broadway show). AJK wanted to climb up on the stage at the end, but the zebra talked him out of it. The performers are great with the kids. This show will absolutely be a highlight of the whole trip! KF headed off to do the Richard Petty Driving Experience (hope it does not rain out!). We decided it was time for The Boneyard, but stopped for lunch at Restaurantosaurus first. Is McDonald's everywhere now? When I went to get a Fastpass for Dinosaur I realized that my ID card was missing. Not good, as it had charge privileges. I immediately called the hotel and they cancelled it and created new ones right away. Called KF and said to pick a new card up on the way back to the room. ALK surprised everyone and came back early, so I got Dinosaur Fastpasses for both of us. The Boneyard was lots of fun for the kids. It is great that they have these areas at the parks where the kids can let off steam - and only have one exit so they cannot disappear easily. We posted M to watch the exit. AJK especially loved the idea that he was climbing around on dinosaur fossils. BB left with the kids to go swimming and ALK and I went on Dinosaur. This would be very scary for young kids, but was good fun. (Still did not buy the photo!) Went with M&D to see It's Tough to Be a Bug. If you are traveling with an ECV be warned that the path is very windy and long and at times is very dark. Not the easiest entrance for the physically challenged. The show was just as good as at California Adventure. What makes this show is not so much the 3D as the sensory effects. They surprise the heck out of you (I won't give them away). Back to the hotel (bus ride took 45 minutes!) and once again it is pouring. KF was one of the last ones in the Driving Experience group to actually get to drive. The Rookie Experience was 1 hour of training and then 10 laps (1 warmup, 8 at full speed and 1warm down). KF had the second fastest speed in the group - only 1 mph off the top speed. This was really an adrenaline rush. If you like to drive fast give this experience a try (but if it rains they cancel and the rain check is only good for 1 year - ALK got rained out and now has to figure out when he will get back to use it. At $399 this is really a bummer!) Anyway, KF now wants to do the Experience of a Lifetime next (20 laps). Works for me, I get to come back and play at WDW :). Dinner at Flying Fish Café at the Boardwalk at 6:30. They gave the kids these little fish games. AJK did it with no problem - none of the adults could! I snuck out before the food arrived to get some candy from the candy store next door (too much temptation for the kids, but I love Mickey Mouse chocolate covered pretzels). The food tonight was the best so far. This was KFs favorite meal (just like our last visit). The crab cakes here are my favorite and the ravioli was excellent. The potato wrapped red snapper was a big hit with D. Best dessert by far was the Napoleon. The kids were tired so we did not walk around, just back to the hotel. ALK and BB took the minivan to Downtown Disney. We watched the fireworks from bed again. Misses Day Three:
Sunday, 6/16 Mickey woke us up at 6:06am for a 7am golf tee time. Still, we only arrived with minutes to spare. D will ride along as M, KF and I play nine or so holes. We use Magical Wishes and were surprised that it was only 1 Wish, not 2. The Magnolia is an absolutely gorgeous golf course. They play the National Car Rental Classic PGA Event there every year. Not too much water but lots of sand traps (including the Mickey Mouse head on hole #6). On the third hole the heavens opened up on us and we had to stop and wait it out. We had one umbrella and one waterproof jacket (which we threw on top of D. It was hysterical and we took some great funny photos). Continued playing when the rain slowed and all of us played pretty well (especially given the conditions). It started to thunder on the ninth, so we went in and asked for a rain check. Now we have a $75 credit to come back and play again! (Another return to WDW :).) KF went to church at the Polynesian and then walked back to the Grand Floridian. The rest of the day (until Father's Day Dinner) was each 'family' on its own. M&D are going to explore the Grand Floridian. KF and I went to go to the Magic Kingdom. The Pin Cart was not selling the Fathers Day Pins - had to go to Town Square Exposition Hall. We bought four - one for D and the rest as collectibles. Also traded for some cool pins :). I'll do more of that today I'm sure. Headed for Tomorrowland, grabbed some Fastpasses for Buzz and decided to skip the 1 hour wait for Space Mountain and go to Alien Encounter (only waited 10 minutes). This attraction is kind of dumb if you ask me, although many Guests were really scared. The best part was the guy behind me when he saw the alien said "Looks like my mother-in-law." When we exited it was pouring again so we ran for the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. This is a great way to pass the time in the rain. Never a wait and it is very relaxing. Time for Buzz. I really enjoyed this one, KF not so much. Once you get the hang of shooting at the targets it gets easier. I would think it gets more fun the more you ride it. I really like the idea of a ride that is also interactive. My score was only 40,000 - I'll do better next time. Took another picture with Walt and Mickey - TIP: if you stand off to the side you can get a really nice picture and don't have to wait in the line. KF wanted to see Pirates of the Caribbean. No wait at all, but the line to the left still moved faster than the right. Yo ho, yo ho I think this is KF's favorite ride. Stopped for Frontierland Fries and was spotted by PK who started yelling in excitement. I guess it IS a small world after all. They had spent the day at the MK too and were about to go back to the hotel to swim (AJK DID love Buzz and PK went on Peter Pan again). They also went to Mickey's Toon Town, which the kids absolutely loved. I advised against Pirates (too scary for AJK) and off they went to the Swiss Family Treehouse and Magic Carpets of Aladdin instead. Back at the hotel ALK and AJK rented a water mouse and had a great time. I got Fastpasses for Haunted Mansion while KF visited the Frontierland Shooting Arcade. We had some time so we walked around Fantasyland (all the ride lines were too long) and Liberty Square. I love the merchandise in Ye Old Christmas Shoppe - snow Tigger and Pooh were my favorite. More pin trading :) and then some shopping at The Yankee Trader. Haunted Mansion was as much fun as when I was six years old and was scared to death. My favorite part is the hitchhiking ghosts. Fabulous theming once again. We decided against the parade due to the heat, so just some shopping on Main Street (I collect the 'grownup' Disney books and got a nice one on the 100 Years Celebration) and then the boat back to the Grand Floridian for some R&R before dinner. (Or so I thought.) M&D had walked down to Narcoossee's which had changed its menu - nothing D liked for his combined Father's Day/Birthday celebration. Called WDW-DINE who were unable to help, so I went to talk to Guest Services. CM and her manager made it happen! 5:45 PS at 1900 Park Fare for eight people. THANK YOU, THANK YOU. D loved his meal (said next time he only wants buffets), the kids loved meeting Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore and Goofy (PK really loves Pooh best, but don't tell her friends). All was well. After cards & presents for D and ALK, KF left to fly home and M and I decided to catch Spectromagic. Unfortunately it began to pour again (M had enough rain on the golf course) so we rode the monorails to EPCOT and back. At the TTC I asked if we could ride with the pilot and we did, back to the Grand Floridian (no pilot's licenses for grownups, I guess). Last pin trade :) and off to pack and watch the fireworks. Misses Day Four (and in general):
Monday, 6/17 Hello Mickey at 6:36am. Finished packing and sent my bags down before breakfast. Went with M&D to check out with David again. I love that the CMs either remember your name or pick up on it immediately (name pins we were wearing). Had four magical wishes left between ALK & I so we used those for breakfast at 1900 Park Fare. PK and AJK were once again rendered speechless - this time by Mary Poppins. They were not interested in the Mad Hatter (is he always so unfriendly?), but got Pooh and Eeyore to sign their chef's hats. Another excellent meal. I think we chose well overall, a good mix of fine dining and characters. Next year we'll try some new places. Decided next year to come over Memorial Day (I know it will be crowded, but PK can't miss so much school and it should not rain so much in May). I think we'll stay at the GF again. Everyone loved it and being on the monorail was great for D. 9am - headed home in my mini-van. The gang shared a ride via Tiffany Towncar back to the airport. M&D actually caught an earlier flight than scheduled, but ALK, BB and the kids got stuck on the tarmac for three hours due to rain. Home by 12 noon. Back to reality. I've been planning this trip for six months, but it went so fast. I guess I'll start thinking about the next one soon. Favorite moments
