Overview
All Star Movies Resort is one of the "value"
Disney resort hotels. It's theme is Disney movies and is
decorated with icons reminiscent of 101 Dalmatian and the Mighty
Ducks. Even though it is not as finely appointed as the
deluxe WDW resorts, the Disney touch is still there. However,
with the large number of rooms this resort can become very crowded
so bus service, food service, and even check-in and check-out
can require lengthy queues.
The center of the resort, Cinema Hall, is where
you'll find the front desk, guest services, the food court facilities
(including express check-out), gift shop, arcade and playground.
The two swimming pools add to the atmosphere besides
providing a nice place to cool off in the mid-day heat.
Room Description
Of course, the theme of the room decor is Disney
movies. The vast majority of the rooms are equipped with
two double beds. A very few have one king-sized bed and
are equipped for handicapped accessibility (they have larger bathrooms
for wheelchair access, but the extra room is carved out of the
sleeping area). Non-smoking and connecting rooms are also
available.
The rooms are equipped with only one sink and one
mirror (most of the other WDW resorts provide two of each).
Fortunately, the sink is located outside the bathroom, but even
so a single sink and mirror is something you should plan around
(especially if you're used to having more available at home for
your family). Also, the resorts are very sparing on the
number of WDW souvenir shampoos and Mickey soaps provided in each
room. The rooms also have no ceiling fan
There are two elevators located near the center
of each building and stairs are located near the elevators and
around the perimeter. Ice, soft drinks, and snack machines
are located near the elevators.
Preferred Room Locations
Three major factors will determine which room location
is best for you: first, proximity to the pools and Cinema Hall,
second, which floor the room is located on, and third, the building
theme.
The rooms that are closest to the pools and Cinema
Hall are noisier than the others simply because of the noise produced
by the greater pedestrian traffic and swimmers. On the other
hand, if close proximity to those facilities is a priority for
you, then you'll have to trade off the peace and quiet for less
walking distance.
Each
building has two-stories. If you'd like to avoid the elevator
or stairs, you should request a first floor room.
The building themes are:
-
101 Dalmatians (buildings 1 and 4)
-
The Mighty Ducks (buildings 2 and 3)
-
Fantasia (buildings 5, Sorcerer's Apprentice,
and 8, Jack-in-the-Box)
-
The Love Bug (buildings 6 and 8)
-
Toy Story (buildings 9, Woody, and10. Buzz Light
Year)
The Mighty Ducks, The Love Bug and Fantasia areas
all have smoking rooms (and non-smoking ones, too). Toy
Story and 101 Dalmatians are non-smoking only.
Food and Drink
Each stand in World Premiere Food Court offers
a different kind of fast food, so if you want a burger and your
wife wants pizza and the kids want hot dogs...you're going to
stand in three lines.
Silver Screen Spirits pool bar serves drinks throughout
the day.
Disney Transportation
When you stay at the All-Star Resorts you travel
by bus. Everywhere. It's not bad service, but the large number
of people at these resorts sometimes mean long waits at the bus
stops. The resort's only bus stop is located at Cinema Hall.
There is one major disadvantage for guests staying
at the All Star Resorts. The bus stops at the the Theme
Parks, Downtown Disney, etc., are almost always the furthest from
the park entrance so you'll have to walk further than folks staying
at the moderate, home-away-from-home and deluxe resorts.
Other Comments
ASM resorts do not provide towels at the pool so
you'll have to take the towels from your room but housekeeping
will bring you more if you call for them.
