The Villas at the Disney Institute
are scattered around an area that is bounded by Old Key West Resort (to
the West), Downtown Disney (to the South), and the Plaza Hotels (to the
East). Community Drive forms the Northern border. The Treehouse
Villas are the furthest to the Northwest, very close to Old Key West.
The Fairways Villas and Grand Vista Homes are in the Northcentral part
of the complex. The Bungalows and Townhouses are scattered around
the Southeastern part of the Institute area. The Lake Buena Vista
Golf Course has it's clubhouse on the Institute grounds. The course
winds through both the Institute and Old Key West Resort.
You may want to click
here for a reference map of the Institute grounds as you go on your
tour. The map will come up in a separate window.
For many years, the Treehouse Villas were among the most
unusual of the accommodations at Walt Disney World. The idea of
sleeping in a multi-level building nestled among the trees must cater
to the Peter Pan in me, but I'm still fascinated by these structures.
Strangely enough, though, I've never stayed in one and don't intend to
do so until I've covered a lot of other WDW resorts first.

trees of the Disney Institute grounds. (Photo by Brian Bennett)

From below, you can see that a large portion of the structure is cantilevered.

Around each Treehouse Villa you'll find walkways and first floor entrances
(as well as exterior stairs up to the upper level). (Photo by Brian

By the way, you may want to note that the kitchen, dining
area, living room, bathroom, master bedroom (with a queen-size bed and
it's own smaller bath), and a second bedroom with a queen-size bed are
actually on the upper level. The ground floor has another bedroom
with a double bed and a laundry room.

Guests at the Treehouse Villas need to be prepared to walk some pretty
long stairs (which can be a pain after a long day in the parks).

The Treehouse Villas are all located to the far West side
of the Disney Institute grounds (directly across the Sassagoula River
from Old Key West Resort). The Treehouse Villas have their own pool,
but the lower numbered unites (401-415) and higher number units (442-454)
are quite a distance away from it
