[ducking the inevitable hate-emails for this one] Room-wise, I didn't
see all that much difference between the All Star Music and the Polynesian
room I stayed in on my honeymoon. The ASM was actually *better* in
that it has a sink outside the bathroom - very convenient in the mornings.
The full-size beds were big enough for us (two 5'6" females), although
I can see where it might be a problem for taller guests. There was
plenty of drawer space for our 3-day trip; a longer trip might be
more of a challenge; but again, it wasn't much better at the Poly.
The table was a bit small, and definitely wouldn't work for a family
breakfast, but for 2-person card games at 1:00 in the morning, it
was perfect! Decorations were a bit loud, but *once again* I felt
the same way about the pineapple-leaf motif at the Poly. The room
was spotless every day, and everything was in great shape (no maintenance
issues). Overall, a great value for the money spent, and a pleasant
surprise. |
Why Did you Select This Resort for your Stay?
|
Financial reasons - this trip was planned all of 4 days in advance
of departure, so the cheaper, the better. I wanted the AS Movies,
as it's the newest, but it was booked. It turned out to be a great
choice! |
Room # and Location Description:
|
Calypso building, 2nd floor - directly over the pool. |
Room Location Pros & Cons:
|
Pros: right next to the main (guitar-shaped) pool, 30-second walk
to the check-in building, with its food court, shop, and bus stop.
Short distance to the elevator. Cons: none! Perfect location. |
Check-In / Check-Out Comments:
|
Check in was quick and painless, at around 8:00 on a Friday night,
holiday (Labor Day) weekend no less! Waited in line *maybe* 10 minutes.
My only gripe was the "haul your own luggage" thing - but I knew that
when I booked the stay. Could have been *much* worse, depending on
room location. Used express checkout without any trouble. |
WDW Transportation Comments:
|
Very quick and convenient - used it for all but Animal Kingdom day
- we went straight from AK to Wilderness Lodge for dinner, and I was
*not* going to try to get from WL to ASM at night via Disney transportation
- too many horror stories! |
Restaurant / Lounge Review:
|
Food court was as expected - pretty standard fare, good prices for
Disney, ridiculous prices for "real world." Only "lounge" is the pool
bar [see comments below]. |
Pool Description / Comments:
|
Pool was fun and not overly crowded (again, even during a holiday
weekend). Nice and warm, but not yuck-I've-been-hot-all-day-why-is-this-darn-pool-so-hot
warm. WARNING: you must show your driver's license at the pool bar
to get a drink - I thought this was pretty stupid, since I had my
resort ID and it could/should/anyone know? have been coded with an
age. Also, the bartender was rude about it - the only Not-Disney-Stellar
service I received. Total pain, but I know they have to cover themselves,
so... |
What Suggestions Would you Give Anyone that is Considering This
Resort?
|
Go for it! Definitely request Calypso or Jazz, though - walks to
other parts of the resort can be pretty long. |
Other Comments:
|
I'd heard lots of complaints about the noise level at the ASM, and
when I saw our room looked out directly over the main pool, I was
a little scared. *NOT ONCE* was I bothered by any noise - we'd open
the door to go to the vending machine, and be hit with *LOUD* shrieking
from the pool area, but then close it again to near silence. We were
also on the 2nd floor, and (presumably, since it was a busy weekend)
had upstairs "neighbors" - didn't hear them once either. I think the
noise reports have been somewhat exaggerated, perhaps. |
