Accommodations Review:
|
I think the accommodations are outstanding at Fort Wilderness. We
have stayed there the last 3 times we have been there & are staying
there again in April 2001. They are large and comfortable. The bedroom
makes it possible for our 3 girls to rest in there during the day
when we take a break while we relax in the living area & at night
they can go to bed while we unwind ourselves before turning the lights
out. It is nice to be able to walk outside & sit around a picnic
table to relax. It is also great to just drive up to your "room" &
walk in instead of having to park in a parking area & then walk
some distance to your room. |
Why Did you Select This Resort for your Stay?
|
We have 5 people in our family. I think one of the moderate Disney
resorts accommodates 5 people but the rooms are very, very small &
because we are there for about 2 weeks, we spend a good amount of
time in our room. A regular hotel room would be too cramped &
uncomfortable. While we are paying more for the accommodations, we
make up the difference in the cost of food. We make one big shopping
trip to Goodings & make almost all breakfasts in the cabin along
with a few lunches & some dinners. |
Room # and Location Description:
|
We stayed in 2503. A perfect location for getting to the smaller
FW pool. |
Room Location Pros & Cons:
|
We loved the location. It was near the small pool & right at
the beginning of the loop, therefore, we didn't have to walk around
the whole to get to the pool. |
Check-In / Check-Out Comments:
|
Both were very quick & easy. |
WDW Transportation Comments:
|
While we always rent a car, we do use the internal transportation.
At times we have to wait a while for the buses, but I think the transportation
is pretty good, considering the area they have to cover. Our children
are also old enough that we make a game out of walking to the different
places inside the campgrounds. |
Restaurant / Lounge Review:
|
We have eaten the pizza in Crockett's Tavern later in the evening
& it was pretty good. I think that the breakfast and dinner buffets
are probably some of the best in WDW for the price, especially the
breakfast. We have never gotten the refillable mugs. |
Pool Description / Comments:
|
While we enjoy sitting at the pool to relax, I don think it should
have slides or something & towels for resort guests who don't
have their own accommodations. That is the one thing that I think
Fort Wilderness should improve - their pool areas. However, we do
enjoy just sitting & relaxing while the kids are swimming. |
What Suggestions Would you Give Anyone that is Considering This
Resort?
|
As stated, while it is a little more expensive than the other resorts,
it is worth it because you can have meals in your room & their
is much more space to enjoy your stay at WDW. In some cases, for just
a little extra money you & your children can be more comfortable
and enjoy your trip more. It is hard being "on top of each other"
after returning from a long day at the parks. I would definitely recommend
staying at this resort. There is so much to do other than just swimming.
We rented bikes, boats, went to the campfire, the petting zoo &
just went for walks. Very relaxing after the hustle & bustle of
the parks. |
Other Comments:
|
We did find a suggestion in the Birnbaum's Official Guide to WDW.
They suggested that families of 5 get 2 rooms in one of their Value
Resorts for less cost than staying in a Villa or at Fort Wilderness.
While we are reluctant to make the switch, we may try it in the future.
That would give us two bathrooms also & with 3 girls approaching
their teenage years we will need it. We will ask for a refrigerator
in the room & possibly buy a small toaster for breakfast items.
