12/11/00-12/17/00

Standard Room / Studio

Accommodations Review:

The room is fine for one or two people, but I would imagine it would be quite cramped for 3 or 4 people. Overall I loved the atmosphere of this resort. The Christmas decorations were beautiful and not overdone, with nice touches such as poinsettias used as bedding plants around the mansions and Dixie style Christmas music playing in the main building.

Why Did you Select This Resort for your Stay?

I wanted to stay at a moderate resort and the themeing of Dixie Landings appealed most to me.

Room # and Location Description:

9778 - Parterre Place, River view

Room Location Pros & Cons:

I paid for a standard view room and was upgraded to a water view room when I asked upon check-in if there were any vacancies. Although I was not in the room much during daylight hours to enjoy the water view, it was definitely prettier than the standard view rooms which overlook parking lots. It was quite a hike to the food court (1/4 mile in each direction), so by the end of the week I was driving my car around to the food court at night rather than walking to get my midnight snack! The building was very quiet and well maintained.

Check-In / Check-Out Comments:

I arrived at 3:15 p.m. on a Monday and was the only one in the lobby, so check in was very quick. The clerk was friendly and helpful, and I was glad to be upgraded. I had express checkout and encountered no problems with my itemized bill.

WDW Transportation Comments:

I had a rental car, but decided to take the boat to Downtown Disney on Friday night. After waiting 15 minutes for the boat, I was lucky to get on, as there were many people waiting on line (even though the resort itself was not full at this time). Once onboard, it takes about 30 minutes to get to DD. Then I took another boat the West Side of DD where Cirque du Soleil is, so all total it took 1 hour from the time I arrived at the DXL dock to when I got to the West Side. Had I taken my car, it would have taken 10 minutes. I opted for the bus back to DXL. I lucked out and got to the bus stop about 2 minutes before the bus pulled up, but other people had been waiting for at least 20 minutes. The bus was full, but I got a seat and got off at the main DXL bus stop to go to the food court, so I can't comment on the distance of the bus stops from my room.

Restaurant / Lounge Review:

I had breakfast and a nightly cup of cocoa at the food court. The variety was fine (bakery, chicken, pizza, Cajun, burgers for lunch/dinner; bakery, pancakes, French toast, fruit for breakfast). The prices were not bad. I bought the refillable mug for $9+ and this paid for itself. Therefore, breakfast cost about $4 a day. The food court was quite empty, except for Sunday, 12/17, as many families with kids now on vacation from school had arrived. I had to share a table with another couple. This was the only day I had a late breakfast (9:00 as opposed to 7:45 the other days) so perhaps my timing was off.

Pool Description / Comments:

The pool at Old Man Island was busy but not crowded or noisy. It was heated to a comfortable temperature and was clean, with attentive lifeguards. I did not use the quiet pools.

What Suggestions Would you Give Anyone that is Considering This Resort?

Definitely consider this resort. Although Parterre Place was quiet and had a nice view, I will probably request a building closer to the main building (food court) next time. I will definitely rent a car again, as I do not have the patience to wait 15-20 minutes or more for a bus. Make sure to check out the singer/piano player in the lounge. He had people of all ages into his act, which includes sing-a-longs (its not as hokey as it sounds).

Other Comments:

The convenience of being able to charge everything at the parks to the rooms, and having packages delivered to the room from the park, is worth the extra money it costs to stay on-site. The timing of my stay was fantastic - minimal crowds, beautiful Christmas decorations, wonderful weather (it was in the 80s each day).
