Festival of the Lion King Photo TourPhotos by Brian Bennett Here are some photos of the Legend of the Lion King show at Disney's Animal Kingdom. As I've already stated on the attractions page, "Festival of the Lion King is a fantastic production that is based on the popular animated feature, but is NOT a retelling of the story of the Legend of the Lion King. Instead, it is a colorful, musical, fantastic display of all the showmanship that the Walt Disney Company is famous for." I won't comment too much, but will add a little dialog where it makes sense. The costumes, in brilliant colors and representing various animals of the Lion King's kingdom, are spectacular! Here, in the opening "processional" several of the performers show their stuff.
The show is presented "in the round" with four sections of guests. The giraffes...
...the warthogs...(better than sweathogs, I imagine)...
...the elephants...
...and the lions.
Each group is trained in making appropriate animal sounds and gestures to "cheer" their section on during the show. There's no real contest going on, but the activity warms up the crowd a bit. After the warm-up, some performers dressed as monkeys do some spectacular acrobatics, tumbling, and gymnastics.
Timon gets into the act at one point, too.
Here are a few shots of some of the musical numbers. Of course, without sound it's not quite the same.
A fire juggler adds some zest to the already electric performance.
We were in the Lion section, here's a view of the giraffes across the way.
And here are some of the performers with the elephant section beyond.
Here are some more general shots as the show builds to it's conclusion. I'll shut up now and let you just look them over.
On previous trips there was a dancer that "flew" overhead in a lovely rendition of "Can You Feel the Love Tonight." That wasn't in this performance, unfortunately. Hopefully it was just eliminated temporarily. Well, short but sweet...there's a taste of one of the best stage shows at Walt Disney World. Don't miss this attraction when you next visit Animal Kingdom! Return to Disney's Animal Kingdom Attractions Page.
