Downtown Disney - Pleasure Island
I have very little personal experience with Pleasure Island.
The shops are similar to the ones you'll find elsewhere in WDW, but the
clubs, of course, are the main attraction here. The Comedy Club and the
Adventurer's Club are of the most interest to me personally, and I've
heard that both are excellent. I suppose you have to pick which places
interest you personally, though.
Pleasure Island is an excellent reason to use Disney's transportation....Drink
all you want at the clubs, but let Disney's bus drivers take you back
to your resort to sleep off the hangover. Don't drink and drive.
Rick Luce, a MousePlanet reader, shared this with me, "When
people write with Pleasure Island questions in the future, I invite you
to direct them to my Yahoo
club for Pleasure Island enthusiasts. Chances are that someone there
will either know the answer or be able to find out!"
Admission:
There is an admission price of $21 after 7:00p.m. (there is no "children's
price"), but admission for the next five consecutive nights can
be added on for an additional $5.00. An annual pass is available
for $58.25 (including tax). Admission to the Island is included in the
Premium Annual Pass, the Ultimate Park Hopper Pass, and is a "plus"
option you can exercise with the Park Hopper Plus Pass.
In any case, you have to pay extra for your drinks and food all night,
of course. Folks under 18 are not admitted without a parent.
Florida's drinking age is 21, and is strictly enforced at Pleasure Island.
Clubs (most serve food as well as beverages)
8Trax
Disco lives...got your bell bottoms, platforms, and tie-die
in the dresser drawer? Please... leave it there, but enjoy
the club anyway if you want.
Adventurers Club
This is probably Pleasure Island's most unique place. The
Adventurer's Club is supposed to be a Gentleman's club from
years ago. Weird and wild events take place on a regular basis
in the library...
BET Soundstage
This relatively new club is PI's home for hip-hop.
Comedy Warehouse
Several shows per night are held at this club, featuring
Improv Comedy. Each one is unique (thus it's called
"impov") and the club is very highly regarded.
Hub Video Stage
Live bands perform nightly out here.
Mannequins Dance Palace
Contemporary music and modern lighting effects are this club's
main attractions. The club's lighting and sound systems
are tops. (Must be 21 to enter this club.)
Pleasure Island Jazz Company
Reminiscent of pre-World War II jazz clubs. If you're
into jazz or blues, this is the place for you.
Rock and Roll Beach Club
Live bands and DJs play tried and true Rock & Roll.
Waterfront Stage
Live bands and DJs perform when the crowds warrant the overflow.
West End Stage
Live performances by top artists are held here nightly. This
is the place where the nightly New Year's Eve parties take
place...
Motion
Formerly the Wildhorse Saloon and the Fireworks Factory before
that, this club is a top 40s and alternative club.
