Tempura Kiku

Location
Upstairs above the Mitsukoshi store.

Comments
Tempura is Japanese battered fried chicken, beef, and vegetables. I've never experienced this
restaurant, so I can't give you an opinion, but the reports I've read are positive, if not
overly-enthusiastic.

Brian's Review
Dinner at this establishment is a fun experience. First, you
need to be aware of the unusual seating arrangement. Everyone is seated in a u-shape
around a central cooking surface in groups of eight people. Therefore, if you're a
two-some, you'll sit with six people you've never met before. When Barb and I went to
Teppanyaki Dining Rooms, we were with friends and the four of us just kind of carried on
like we were alone. I don't think it would be as enjoyable if we were by ourselves. After
being seated, our hostess took our orders and provided us with hot cloths to wash our hands.
Soon, our chef came out and cooked our vegetables (everyone was given a portion of veggies
that were cooked together) and our "entrees" on a stainless steel grill right in
front of us. Ginger and soy sauces are provided for dipping your meats and
steamed rice is dished up, as well. The atmosphere of having our food cooked right in front of us, and the
unusual vegetables, beverages, and deserts made the meal very
enjoyable. The food is excellent.
We'll definitely go back.

Yakitori House
Location
This fast food restaurant is located on top of the hill,
behind the five-roofed temple and water garden, and across the plaza from the Mitsukoshi department store.

Brian's Review
I first discovered Yakitori House it on our trip in 1996 when we
were looking for a restroom.
We found the facilities, but found Yakitori House too. The food is definitely
more
exotic than the Americanized Chinese faire at the Lotus Blossom Cafe, but it was enjoyable
and unique. The prices were slightly better here than the Chinese alternative, too.
