September 1998:
After that, we made our way back to Main Street for lunch at the
Plaza. We had to wait ten or fifteen minutes before they
could seat a group of seven, but that wasn't bad. I
had a chef's salad and Barb had some chicken and rice soup along
with sharing some of Allan's grilled cheese sandwich. This
is a nice place for a decent sit-down meal at reasonable prices.
Good food and usually decent service (and today's was better than
usual).
May 1998: We ended up at the Plaza
Restaurant for lunch. It is one of my favorites at MK. They have a
Chicken and Rice Soup that is delicious. Their sandwiches are
great too, with very large portions.
October 1997: I really love the
Plaza, and its' alter ego in California -- the Carnation
Restaurant. The food is simple, but tasty, and the portions are
large. When we were being seated, the hostess asked if Allan
could have crayons and a placemat to color on. We were a little
concerned that he would think they were the actual entree, but
decided to let him have a try. He actually did quite well, tasting
Crayola only once. He did manage to get alot of different colors
all over the paper. Barb saved it as his very first masterpiece.
You never know that that will be worth some day - at least to us
proud parents. I ordered a chef's salad and asked for a
chocolate shake to be made into a coffee shake like you can get at
the Carnation. Both were excellent, especially the shake. Barb had
a large bowl of chicken and rice soup and sprite, and Allan shared
his hot dog, burger, and fries meal with mom with milk on the
side. The total bill, before tip, was $25.87 (it included the cost
of an espresso for my shake).
October 1997: We walked back toward the hub
via Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, and made it back to the
restaurant at about 7:05pm. Allan was pretty hungry by now, and I
had a bit of a headache, so I tried to get our table early. Within
5 minutes or so, we were in. Dot, our server, was a bit lethargic
tonight. The food took a long time to arrive. Allan was fairly
filled up with fruit loops by the time his grilled cheese ($4.75)
arrived and Barb's root beer float ($3.25) didn't come until
halfway through the meal, and then only after a reminder to Dot
that we didn't have it yet. The food was good, as always at the
Plaza. My Chef's Salad ($9.25) was fine, and my chocolate / coffee
shake ($3.95) was great. Barb also enjoyed her chicken and rice
soup ($2.95). Didn't get charged for the espresso this time,
either. However, it seemed like we were always waiting for this
meal....water refills, food, just plain slow service.
October 1997: We made a beeline for the Plaza
one last time this trip. Barb had the chicken & rice soup
($2.95) , of course, and a bacon cheddar burger ($9.75). I had a
double- decker sandwich ($10.25) and my usual chocolate/coffee
shake ($3.95). Allan, with his teething, just had some of ours
along with some white milk ($1.75). The whole meal came out to be
just $27.36 after my MKC discount, and before the tip.
October 1996: For lunch we walked over
to the Plaza Restaurant at the top of Mainstreet at the hub. It's
hard to find such tasty food in a quiet atmosphere for such a
reasonable price anywhere in Walt Disney World...but this place
does it all well. It's not fancy, but the service and food is
good, the A/C is on, and the prices are ok. I had a Rueben
sandwich with fries and a root beer, Barb ordered a grilled cheese
sandwich with fries and a root beer float. Since Barb's sandwich
and fries was from the children's menu, and the mean included a
soft drink and a single scoop of ice cream, they didn't charge us
separately for the float! The whole meal (excluding tip) was less
than $18. My one complaint about the Plaza is that it really is a
tough place to eat with a stroller. There really aren't any great
tables for parking one. Barb and I ended up at a small table in
the greenhouse part of the seating area (in the far back of the
restaurant) with the stroller wedged between our table and the one
right next to us...blocking the emergency exit. It was
uncomfortable to be so close to everyone and feel like we were
making the folks at the other tables uncomfortable too. Other than
that, though, the meal was good as always.
October 1996: We immediately walked down Main
Street to the Plaza Restaurant for a nice lunch. I had the club
sandwich (called the "triple decker"), Barb had soup and
the cheese and bacon burger. Dad followed suit (with Barb) and Mom
had the chef's salad. Everything was very good...typical Plaza.
Our combined bill was just shy of $50 for the four of us.
November 1995: I had a chef's salad and a side
of fries ($9.25 and $1.75). The fries were great!, but the salad
was a bit disappointing. The ham and cheese that topped it were
cut too thickly, so it was difficult to dress the salad. It wasn't
really all that bad, it just was too plain. Mike had a
bacon-cheddar cheeseburger and soup ($9.75 and $2.50). Stacey
stuck with just the soup ($2.50) and Barb had a grilled ham and
cheese sandwich, soup, and a root beer float ($9.25, $2.50, and
$3.25). For desert, I had a coffee shake ($3.95, and much
better in California at Disneyland), Mike had a sundae of some
kind (I don't remember exactly which one...either hot fudge or
caramel...$4.25), and Barb begged for a children's only desert -
sugar cookies. She reported that they were excellent!
May 1993: We came here to catch the coffee
milkshake I had enjoyed so much at Disneyland a month before. I
was disappointed that the Sealtest-sponsored restaurant didn't
have it, but the food was still very good. The portions were huge
and very tasty. I highly recommend that anyone visit here for
lunch. |
