Called in the morning for a reservation
that evening at 6:30 PM. Had no problem. |
Time of Wait: |
Waited not more than 10 minutes and were
seated upstairs in an open cubicle so that we had our own little
"room" that was open to the rest of the restaurant. It afforded us
some privacy without cutting us off completely. We did not request
this arrangement but were pleased with it. |
Food Review: |
With 6 adults and 2 children (ages 3 and
6), we had a variety of meals. I'll address the adult meals first
and then the children's selections: Most of us started with the
Lobster Bisque ($6.95),which was very good but missed being
excellent because of a heavy-handed overdose of Sherry which tended
to mask the delicate flavor of the lobster. Others in our party had
Shrimp Cocktail ($10.95) and Crab Cake ($13.45). Stone Crab Claws
were next ($38.95) and while ALL the seafood ordered was
unquestionably fresh tasting, the Stone Crab claws -- as well as the
King Crab Claw entrees ($44.95) that followed -- were lacking in
flavor and as such, were disappointing. The servings, however, were
very generous so bring a hearty appetite with you! Other entrees
were the Filet and Stone Crab Combo (Filet was very good) @ $70.90
and another entree of Filet alone @ $ 28.95. The desserts were also
generous in size and were generally quite good. Key Lime Pie @
$4.95. Cherry Cobbler was $5.95. The children's meals were Hot Dog
and Spaghetti, both @ $4.95. The total bill came to $621, with tax
and 15% gratuity, which the restaurant added. Since we were on the
Discovery Magic Plan, this meal was covered by that plan otherwise,
I think, I'd be in debtor's prison. This is NOT an inexpensive
restaurant and based on our experience there, I would not be
inclined to rush back. It's possible that the rather tasteless
seafood selections we had were due to the particular season when
they are not at their best but since the prices aren't adjusted
accordingly, I can't give this restaurant anything more than a B+.

Service Review: |
Our waiter was excellent but the wait
staff helping him left much to be desired. We still had dirty dinner
dishes on the table when dessert was served and the wait staff (bus
boys, etc.) did not refill water glasses or refresh condiments or
serve our table in general. If we asked our waiter for something, he
was quick to oblige but we should not have had to wait for him to
show up, the wait staff assisting him should have at least checked
periodically. The meal took 2 1/2 hours because at times, we had to
wait a long time between courses. |
Atmosphere Review: |
As previously mentioned, we were seated
in a private cubicle (rather like a fenced-in corral with 2 sides
comprised of solid 4-foot walls) which was a nice arrangement for a
party of 8 but any atmosphere or ambiance --at least, in that
section of the restaurant--was not particularly noteworthy or
evident. There were no windows so we had no "view", our large table
had white butcher paper over a cloth, we had no crystal, as one of
your other reviewers mentioned and there were no flowers on the
table. Therefore, any atmosphere we had was provided by a sea of brown
woodwork and white paper tablecloths. While atmosphere is always a
plus, a restaurant's food should be the decisive factor in where to
eat. |
Other Comments: |
Downtown Disney is a zoo at night and the
Crab House is not the easiest place to get to. Allow yourself plenty
of time to get there from the bus or parking
lot. | | | |
