Brian's Review

We stopped in at Captain Cook's for a quick late supper one night.  It fit the bill, in that we got something to eat, but we were quite unimpressed with this cafe.  It's not a premier place, and we didn't expect it to be, but it was dirty (lots of overflowing garbage cans and un-bussed tables) and unappetizing.  Not surprisingly, we haven't been back since.

Comments

Kona Cafe is a moderately priced restaurant with a South Seas flair.  The coffee bar which is part of the Cafe lends a "Starbucks" atmosphere, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.  The food served here is somewhat more pricey than I would expect for fairly typical food, but not out of line with prices elsewhere at Walt Disney World.

On a recent visit, I ordered the teriyaki beef, with rice and spinach.  Barb had chicken soup (which she says was very good, unusually flavored -- it had some spices and herbs that made it different, and they used spiral noodles -- but the flavor was excellent.).  Allan had a PBJ sandwich while Michael munched off of Allan's fries and bread.  For desert, I DID have the famous koko puffs (cream puffs with chocolate inside and a cream on top -- like an "inside out éclair"), Barb had a turtle brownie, served warm, that was excellent.  Actually, I liked the brownie better than the koko puffs, but the reviews I've read have been so lavish that I just had to try them.  Someday, we'd like to go back and try the volcano chocolate cake.  All told, dinner set us back an even $58.00 including tax and tip.

Kona Cafe's famous "Ko-Ko Puffs" are in the middle of the desert display.

'Ohana

Location

On the second floor of the great ceremonial house, overlooking the grotto pool and marina.

Menu

Cuisine: Pacific Rim
Sample Items: Breakfast - American fare; Dinner - Seafood, Steak
Prices: Very Pricey

Brian's Review

Polynesian grilled meats (and very, very little in the way of veggies or starches) makes this a great meal for the carnivore. Our server was pretty good, and the 'Ohana (family) atmosphere was fun. If you really want to enjoy this place, have dinner here around 8:00pm (more atmosphere then) and on an empty stomach. Good food, good service, reasonable prices...

'Ohana is also the location of a Character Breakfast, formerly known as "Minnie's Menehune", where you can rub elbows with several of the "Fab Five" characters (but Minnie herself is rarely, if ever, seen here anymore.)

Very Good
