Brian's Review

Themed like a 1950's Mom's kitchen, this restaurant serves mostly "home cooked meals." Cow-shaped salt and pepper shakers, watermelon napkin holders and the like rest on every Formica topped table in the place.

The servers are all "cast" as your cousin, sister, aunt, mom, brother...and are supposed to play up the family meal atmosphere.  Sometimes folks are given applause for joining the "clean plate club."  Others are given the "airplane treatment" when they don't eat all of their vegetables.

Sometimes the servers, who are in the role of "Sis", "brother", "Mom", and so on lay things on a bit too thick, but sometimes they strike the perfect balance of fun without being obnoxious.

Keep in mind that not all of the servers at the 50's Prime Time Cafe' play it up very well.  If you read through the reviews below, you'll see that there is a wide range of experiences as far as the atmosphere provided by the server is concerned.

This is indeed an interesting place, but fun due to the atmosphere much more than the food...and only if you get a server that strikes that delicate balance of fun without being obnoxious.

Service:

Average, but Hilarious at Times

Price:

Moderate

Food:

The shakes and malts and pot roast are excellent!  (try the peanut butter & jelly one).  I'd also suggest you avoid the meatloaf.  It's less than awe-inspiring.

Atmosphere:

Possibly Manic (Depending on your Server)

Comments

Significantly more upscale than the fast food places, but not as pretentious as the Hollywood Brown Derby, this eatery is located next to 50's Prime Time Cafe on Vine.  Chicken, ribs, pasta, and seafood are available.

Hollywood & Vine is a character meal restaurant!  You'll find the "Fab Five" characters here for breakfast and lunch (NOT for dinner, though).  priority seating is strongly recommended.
