Brian's Review

This is a large but otherwise unexceptional fast food place.  It's one of the few places in the park where you can get breakfast, but it's lunch and dinner selections are few.

Service:

Price:

Inexpensive

Food:

Barb loved the Quesdilla Club, I preferred her chicken strips.  We traded dinners and both ended up happy.

Atmosphere:

Pleasant, but not special.

Brian's Review

This restaurant is an enigma.  When we first visited Mama Melrose's, the food was excellent and the service lousy.  We returned because the food was so good.  Then, from 1996 until 1998 or so, the service improved so much that we were more favorably impressed with each return visit.  Unfortunately, the menu keeps changing and many of the favorites that we've enjoyed over the years are no longer available -- replaced, unfortunately, with obscure dishes that are more for the Italian food aficionado than for the typical Joe Blow off the street (like me).  The pepperoni and mushrooms wood-fired pizzas and all-you-can-eat pasta (with various sauces and various pastas) are no more.

Another example:  On one visit, we'd told our son that he could build his own pizza (an option from the child's menu), but alas, even that was no longer available.  Our server said she could still do that for us anyway, but apparently forgot and just brought out the cooked pie.  Allan was disappointed.  So was I.

The only old favorite that is still a good bet is the tiramisu.  It's changed over the years, too, but is still a wonderful desert.

Brian's Review

This place just wasn't our style. Here you sit in the front and back of cars parked at the local drive-in theatre. You're bombarded with "b" movie trailers as you munch on your meal.

The food itself was fairly good -- typical sandwiches and stuff -- but the atmosphere, while interesting, hasn't merited a return visit for us...at least not yet. Go, if you've never gone before, though...you might love it. I had an excellent Reuben sandwich with chips.

Menu

  • Cuisine: American

Comments

Don't expect a faithful recreation of Pizza Planet from the movie.  There are a few arcade games around, but this isn't as fantastic as it's namesake from the film.   Pizza and salad, of course, is the mainstay.
