Splash Mountain is the only Disneyland attraction to have created its land. When the ride opened in 1989 the entire land was changed from Bear Country to Critter Country in its honor. A classic flume ride, Splash Mountain puts its passengers in logs that follow a watery path through several scenes from the movie Song of the South, culminating in a long drop at the end. The ride has remained popular for more than 15 years, and has been duplicated at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom and Tokyo Disneyland (both opening in 1992).
