Dumbo the Flying Elephant
Dumbo the Flying Elephant has been capturing the imagination of children since August 1955 when the first person received a black feather (those at the head of the line who will get on with the next loading get black feathers) to help them fly. Though not running on the park's first day, it was part of the original construction for Fantasyland. As part of the 1983 redesign of Fantasyland it was moved to its current location. The ride is popular with young children since the Dumbo ride vehicle allows a parent and child to ride together with the kid controlling the rise and fall of the elephant.

- Wait Times: Though the actual ride time is short, it has a rarely achieved maximum hourly capacity of only 600 riders per hour. Unless you ride first thing in the morning, waiting 30-45 minutes should be expected and even longer on crowded days.
- Length of Ride: 1 minutes, 30 seconds.
- FastPass: No.
- Single Rider: No.
- Queue Description: No real themed queue, just a tightly wound corral that leads to where you
enter the ride.
- Health Restriction: Should be safe for all health conditions.
- Ride Access: The queue is not wheelchair or ECV accessible. To enter, go to the exit gate and await
instructions.
- Wheelchair Transfer: Transferring from wheelchairs and ECVs is required. It should be noted that
the ride will not necessarily stop in the exact same spot as where it started so you may need someone to retrieve your wheelchair or
ECV for you.
- Service Animals: Service animals are allowed.
- Audio: No assistive devices are available and sound only plays an atmospheric role in the attraction.
- Weight and Size Issues: If an adult is at all large they will find it uncomfortable to ride Dumbo with
another adult, but it is not an issue to get a unit of your own.

- Other Issues: As a safety consideration, young children should sit on the inside of this ride with their adult nearer the door
- At this location: Dumbo the Flying elephant was originally a bit to the left of where it is now located.
The current location was originally home to Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship and Restaurant, a large pirate ship that served as a dining location in Fantasyland. The restaurant's name was change in 1969 to Captain Hook's Galley. When Fantasyland was
redesigned in 1983-84, it was impossible to keep that ship in place during the reconstruction and it was unintentionally destroyed
during removal. Dumbo was then moved into the location squarely behind the castle.
- This attraction's history: When Dumbo opened it has only 10 ride units. In 1990 a completely new version
of the ride was installed. Originally intended for Disneyland Paris, it was built and then put into Disneyland instead. This update
increased the capacity to 16 ride units and put in more modern ride mechanisms.
