Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor

Serving Dreyer's Ice Cream, Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor remains an end-of-day destination for ice cream, a sundae, or milkshake. Though the Disneyland-only fantasia flavor is no longer served, check the board every day to see what flavors are available. Don't be deterred by long lines, the staff is very efficient and the line moves quickly.

The place was crowded, as usual. We waited aoubt 35 minutes in line (only two registers open). We place our order and wait another 10 minutes to get our ice cream. My husband and I both got the sundae that has cookies on it. The cookies were hard as rocks...I mean you cannot bite into them hard. We discarded them. The ice cream was good, but the hot fudge was minimal. Really not worth the time or the price.

The ice cream is great. The service is sooo slow. I am always shocked how slow the service is in the shop. I can't imagine that management can't think of a way to motivate these cast members.

The Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor smells LOVELY all the time! It's mouth-watering, the scents that come out of that place! I love to get a big waffle-cone of Fantasia ice cream with hot's amazing! Fantasia is officially my favorite flavor ice cream...and I can only get it at Disneyland, darnit!
They also have Rootbeer Floats here, which is another reason I love this place!

The only thing I don't like is that it's ALWAYS crowded with tons of people...the line gets out of control during the summer months especially. But the cast members scoop as quick as they can and I appreciate them for that.
The atmosphere is gorgeous...and takes me back to a time when there actually WAS pretty parlors to eat ice cream sundaes in...not just a ratty old Baskin Robbins (although, trust me, I'm definitely not doggin' Baskin Robbins' ice cream...I love that stuff too.)

History and Trivia - Hide Section
  • At this location: For the first five years of the park, this location was Puffin Bakery. In 1960, the location closed for a month and reopened as Sunkist Citrus House, where fruit juices and sandwiches were offered. In 1990 the Sunkist sponsorship ended and this location became Blue Ribbon Bakery. In 1997, the Carnation Ice Cream Parlor was reorganized into Carnation Cafe, and Blue Ribbon Bakery was moved into what had been the indoor portion of that restaurant. Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor opened at that time.
  • Other Trivia:
    • Fantasia: Until 2003, Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor was the only location in the world for Fantasia ice cream from Carnation (attempts to sell it at Walt Disney World had not succeeded). Citing the cost of producing the flavor for just Disneyland and limited demand, the flavor was discontinued in December 2004. At the same time, the ice cream served was switched from the Carnation brand to the Dreyer's brand (both owned by Nestle).
