Candlelight Ceremony & Procession
The Candlelight Processional is on of the oldest traditions at Disneyland, going all the way back to 1958. Each Walt Disney Company cast members vie for a spot in the choir for the few performances each year. If selected they'll participate in a special telling of the Christmas story on Main Street. As they march down Main Street (the processional part) to their Christmas-tree inspired riser in front of Main Street Station a full orchestra plays. Once in place, they will accompany a celebrity narrator in telling the Christmas story and singing classic carols.

The Event's History: The Candlelight Processional was the brainchild of Charles Hirt (1912-2001), the legendary choir instructor at the University of Southern California School of Music and it has been on the Disneyland calendar every year since. Though the annual performances moved to the Fantasyland Theater from 1998 through 2002, the essence of it has remained unchanged. In 1971 the tradition grew to include Walt Disney World, first at Magic Kingdom and then moving to Epcot in 1994.
