History and Trivia
- At this location: Journey Into Imagination opened about six months after the Journey into Imagination pavilion on March 5, 1983. In this ride, guests would watch the Dreamfinder create a dragon-type creature named Figment and then riders would go on a tour with the Dreamfinder and Figment of places in which imagination is used. Throughout the show was a song by the Sherman Brothers called "One Little Spark." Dreamfinder and Figment may be the only examples of characters original to a Disney park creating any kind of lasting following, but they did. At one point in time it was even possible to meet them on the walkway in front of the pavilion, just like Mickey Mouse or one of the princesses. On October 5, 1998 the ride closed for a major rehaul, which put in place the new, completely different story.
- The Attraction's History: On October 15, 1999, the ride reopened as Journey into Your Imagination with what is essentially the current storyline, though Figment was barely seen (he appeared in a pre-show video). This change did not go over well with fans and in a rare example of complaints about a ride change or closure having an effect, Journey Into Your Imagination closed in January 2002 and reopened six months later with Figment returned throughout the ride and the name again changed, to Journey into Imagination with Figment.
- Other Trivia:
- Sponsors: Kodak has sponsored the Imagination pavilion since it opened in October 1982.
