Fantasyland is a place of imagination. Particularly the imagination of Disney's feature animators over the years. Of the area's attractions, only "it's a small world" is an original feat of imagination with the rest being based on Disney's animated movies.

There's nothing wrong with that, though, and it can be argued that the land achieves the perfect balance between fun for adults and fun for children; it truly embodies Walt Disney's ideal of creating a place for families to have fun together. Starting with Cinderella's Castle, the real world embodiment of a fairy tale castle children can slip themselves into any of a half dozen cherished films.

A massive expansion of Fantasyland, announced in 2009, is now complete. Storybook Circus has taken over the area once inhabited by Mickey's Toontown Fair, creating a circus atmosphere centered around the moved and expanded Dumbo the Flying Elephant attraction. In addition, the princesses have taken up residence there with the addition of a Little Mermaid attraction, Ariel meet-and-greet area, Belle's village, Princess Fairytale Hall and the new Be Our Guest restaurant (the only place inside the Magic Kingdom where you can have alcoholic beverages with a meal).

History and Trivia - Hide Section
  • At this location: Fantasyland is one the Magic Kingdom's original lands, and while it could be argued that it's size hasn't technically changed, the removal of the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea lagoon makes it seem smaller.
  • The Land's History: Fantasyland opened with 11 attractions, six of which still exist. The five that have disappeared over the years are 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (now paved over), Mr. Toad's Wild Ride (now The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh), Mickey Mouse Revue (now Mickey's PhilharMagic), Snow White's Scary Adventures (now Princess Fairytale Hall), and the Skyway to Tomorrowland (now simply gone).
  • 1994 was a time of change for Fantasyland as the area was generally spruced up and reorganized. In addition to 20,000 Leagues closing, Snow White's Scary Adventures was significantly updated and entirely new Dumbo the Flying Elephant was built from scratch. Several stores and restaurants were consolidated, moved, or changed.
  • Snow White's Scary Adventures was closed in 2012 to make way for a princess meet-and-greet location.
  • Storybook Circus opened in 2012 with a relocated double Dumbo ride, as well as other attractions where the old Toontown Fair used to be.
  • All of the New Fantasyland expansion (Be Our Guest restaurant, Gaston's Tavern, Little Mermaid attraction, Enchanted Tales with Belle) except the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train opened in 2012.
