| Hey there
Muppet fans! ColumbiaTristar has announced the
long-awaited DVD releases of The Muppet Movie and The Muppets
Take Manhattan on June 5th. The disc is expected to include both
1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen and full frame transfers, as well as a new
English 5.1 surround mix along with English, French and Spanish 2.0
surround mixes and subtitles. Bonus material will include "Muppetisms,"
Jim Frawley's camera test, production notes and bonus trailers. Columbia
will be releasing the other Muppet movies later on, but there are no
plans for a special box set with additional bonus material.
As for Disney, Pooh hits the DVD format on July 17th with two releases. The first title, Pooh’s Grand Adventure: The Search for Christopher Robin, will feature a 1.66:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, an English 5.1 surround track, a "Pooh Skies" animated short and some interactive games. The second title, The Book of Pooh: Stories from the Heart, will also feature a 1.66:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, an English 5.1 surround track, "The History of Winnie The Pooh: When Pooh Was Very, Very Young" featurette, character biographies, and a "Connect-The-Dots" activity game. Also, don’t forget that on March 20th you will have another option for buying Toy Story and Toy Story 2! Yes, there will be the Ultimate Toy Box three-disc set, the Toy Story 2-Pack, and the individual Toy Story and Toy Story 2 discs. It appears that Disney has simply split the 2-Pack and repackaged the individual discs. The Toy Story disc will sport a fully digital 1.77:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, an English 5.1 surround track, French and Spanish language tracks, the Pixar short "Tin Toy," and THX certification with THX Optimode. Toy Story 2 will feature fully digital transfers in both 1.77:1 anamorphic widescreen and 1.33:1 full screen, an English 5.1 Surround EX track, the Pixar short "Luxo Jr.", the outtakes, and THX certification with THX Optimode. I’m not really clear why they are doing this now, since the other two configurations have been available for some time; however I’m sure it comes down to providing an affordable option for those only interested in one of the movies.
Other news floating around the 'net includes word that Warner Brothers will be releasing a special edition of The Iron Giant sometime later this summer. Also along the "special edition" line, it appears that later this year, MGM is supposed to release The Princess Bride: Special Edition. I know there are a lot of people waiting for this one, and I’m sure there’ll be more on it in the near future. That's it for now, but stay tuned for more! |
