The MousePlanet Home Theater Video News - 10/13/00
The forced video previews that precede all Gold Collection DVDs will be eliminated in all future releases.  I imagine that you will still be able to view them through the menus, but at least you won't have to manually skip through them like you do now.  Also, there are no plans to remaster the current releases, so as long as they are out in the market, they'll have the previews...

Here's Disney's press release for the home video release of "Dinosaur" in early 2001 - it sounds like Disney's catching on to what the viewers want:

"DINOSAUR'' -- The Landmark Adventure Thunders Onto VHS and DVD Jan. 30, 2001
Offered As Standard DVD and Deluxe 2-Disc Collector's DVD Edition

BURBANK, Calif., Oct. 9, 2000 -- Walt Disney Pictures Presents DINOSAUR, the magnificent pre-historic animated adventure, making its heavyweight debut on VHS and Disney DVD from Walt Disney Home Video on Jan. 30, 2001.

A milestone in cinema history, DINOSAUR features an incredible cast of computer-animated Dinosaurs set in a jaw-dropping photorealistic world, creating a thrilling experience unlike any other. The moving story and top-notch voice cast, together with the groundbreaking animation, takes audiences on an amazing journey to the time when Dinosaurs ruled the earth.

In support of this one-of-a-kind film, DINOSAUR on DVD is being offered as both a Standard Edition DVD and as a special 2-disc Collector's Edition DVD, offering many features including both DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound (THX Certified with THX Optimode), behind-the-scenes featurettes, challenging games and much more.

The Collector's Edition DVD's second disc is devoted solely to supplemental features (please see below for DVD features). A wondrous animated masterpiece in the grand Disney tradition, DINOSAUR is collectibly priced at $26.99 (S.R.P.) for VHS, $29.99 (S.R.P.) for the DVD Standard Edition and $39.99 (S.R.P.) for the Deluxe Collector's DVD Edition.

The DVD of DINOSAUR features a digital transfer created directly from the digital source, ensuring an optimal presentation that actually surpasses the Theatrical experience. Both the DINOSAUR Standard Edition DVD and the Deluxe Collector's Edition DVD are presented in DTS 5.1 Surround Sound and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound, and are THX Certified with THX Optimode for the ultimate in sound quality.

Both the Standard and Deluxe Collector's Edition DVDs offer several fun games and features. The interactive virtual reality game "Aladar's Adventure" offers three levels of challenge, the "Dinopedia" feature allows young viewers to learn interesting and fun facts about the dinosaurs seen in the film, and the "DinoSearch" game challenges viewers to find hidden pieces to assemble three dinosaurs from the film.

The Deluxe Collector's Edition DVD offers standout bonus material such as early animation tests, deleted scenes, dinosaur designs, 3-D workbook to final film comparison and much more. (Complete Standard and Collector's Edition DVD features are listed below.)

Set 65 million years ago during the late Cretaceous Period, DINOSAUR follows the adventures of an Iguanodon named Aladar (D.B. Sweeney, TV's "Lonesome Dove"), who is separated from his own species and raised on an island paradise by a clan of Lemurs, including Plio (Alfre Woodard, "Mumford"), and Yar (Ossie Davis, TV's "Third Watch" and "City of Angels").

When a devastating meteor shower plunges their world into chaos, Aladar and several members of his Lemur family escape to the mainland and join a group of migrating dinosaurs desperately searching for safe nesting grounds.

The herd faces many obstacles during their treacherous trek, as they cross a waterless desert trying to outrun a group of bloodthirsty Carnotaur predators. Aladar's quick wits and compassion for the slower members of the tribe bring him into conflict with Kron (Samuel E. Wright, "The Little Mermaid"), the rigid, stone-hearted group leader, and Kron's lieutenant Bruton (Peter Siragusa, "Home Alone").

With the support of Kron's sister Neera (Julianna Margulies, TV's "ER"), Aladar shows how compassion and working together is the best path to survival in a changing world.

DINOSAUR is rated "PG" by the Motion Picture Association of America and has a running time of approximately 82 minutes.

Walt Disney Home Video is distributed by Buena Vista Home Entertainment, a recognized industry leader.
