Whew! Quite a list, and I can’t wait to see all that great stuff in a few months.

Here's a tidbit that I recently gathered: Fans of Tron will be happy to hear that Disney is preparing a 20th Anniversary Collector’s Edition. No release date has been set, but I’d expect to see it in the summer of 2002. I'm hoping we'll get a couple of discs packed with extras as well as an anamorphic widescreen transfer. (The LaserDisc box set was quite a deluxe package!) Too bad it probably won’t correspond to the theatrical release of Tron 2.0, which is apparently still in pre-production.

In announcement news, Warner Bros. announced the September 11 release of animated versions of J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord Of the Rings (theatrically released, 1978), The Hobbit (TV special) and The Return Of The King (TV special). While Warner did not release the full specifications, the discs will not be special editions and will only be available as full-frame transfers, and each disc will retail for $19.95.

Warner Brothers is also releasing three more space-related IMAX films on October 2: Mission to Mir, Hail Columbia! and Destiny in Space. The discs appear to be direct transfers of the movies without bonus material, and each disc will retail for $19.98. A five disc box set will also be available, and it will include the three previously mentioned titles as well as Blue Planet and The Dream is Alive.

Rumor tidbit: The Shrek special edition DVD is tentatively slated for an October release. Here are a few of the anticipated goodies: new "behind- the- scenes" interviews with the characters from the movie, "computer rendering errors" and uncompleted storyboards. Plus, as we understand it, there will be deleted / unused scenes that were rendered / finished especially for the DVD. More to come as details are released.

Availability Reminder: You can pre-order the Walt Disney Treasures DVDs at 25% off retail from Check them out:

That's it for now, but stay tuned for more!
