After
reporting on last week’s news
about the Walt Disney Treasures DVD releases, I received an email from
reader, Steve:
Could you fill me in just a
little more about the upcoming DVD from Disney pertaining to
Disneyland. You listed four of the shows that will be on the DVD but
I was curious if there is going to be any shows on this DVD
pertaining to the Golden Horseshoe? Also, do you have any idea of
the running time of this DVD? It's about time that they released
some of the old shows about Disneyland and the making of DL. I can't
wait.
Well Steve, I can’t wait either. Unfortunately, I have no further
information right now. I’m just as curious as you are about the
episode and feature lists on each of the volumes, but we’ll have to
hold on for a bit. As soon as I get any additional information, I’ll
post it.
In addition to the Buena Vista Home Entertainment news last week, I
came across some other interesting news about several interesting summer
DVD releases from Warner Home Video (WHV). There wasn’t a lot of
detail about the individual titles, so I’ve summarized the information
for you:
On June 12,
WHV will release the IMAX(R) hits "The Dream Is Alive" and
"Blue Planet," and each title will be available on DVD for
$19.98 SRP.
"Earning more than $200
million at the box office to date and narrated by Walter Cronkite,
the popular IMAX film "The Dream Is Alive" takes viewers
into space alongside a group of astronauts as they orbit the Earth
over the towering Andes, the boot of Italy, Egypt and the Nile.
Hitting stores at the
same time will be the critically acclaimed, $70 million IMAX hit
"Blue Planet," which presents a unique view of our world
from 200 miles above the earth's surface. The film shows how natural
forces (volcanoes, earthquakes and hurricanes) affect our world and
how a powerful new force, humankind, has begun to alter the face of
the planet."
Then, on July 3,
WHV will explore the world of dinosaurs with the re-promotion of the
Emmy Award-winning documentary from BBC Home Video, "Walking with
Dinosaurs," the release of its sequel, "Allosaurus: A Walking
with Dinosaurs Special," and the release of IMAX’s "T-Rex:
Back to the Cretaceuous."
"Walking with Dinosaurs" will be available on DVD for
$34.98 SRP. "T-Rex: Back to the Cretaceous" will be available
on DVD for $19.98 SRP. "Allosaurus: A Walking with Dinosaurs
Special" "Allosaurus" will be available on DVD for $14.98
SRP.
"State- of- the- art
digital effects and animatronics combine to create life- like,
virtual dinosaurs in the highest- rated cable documentary ever,
"Walking with Dinosaurs," and its powerful sequel, "Allosaurus:
A Walking with Dinosaurs Special."
Seen by an estimated 80
million households during its April 8 Discovery Channel premiere,
"Allosaurus: A Walking with Dinosaurs Special" tells the
moving story of the life and death struggle of Big Al, the most
complete Allosaurus skeleton ever found. The program also takes
viewers behind-the-scenes to show how scientists have been able to
trace this incredible life story.
Earning more than $59
million in worldwide box office since its theatrical release in 1998
and seen by more than 11 million people, IMAX's critically acclaimed
"T-Rex: Back to the Cretaceous." Dinosaurs are very much
alive -- at least in the mind of teenager Ally Hayden. When a museum
accident transports Ally on an adventure back in time to explore the
terrain and territory of life-size dinosaurs, she is thrust --
literally -- nose-to-nose with the largest and most realistic
dinosaur ever to appear on a movie screen: the fearsome, 20-foot
tall, 15-ton Tyrannosaurus Rex!"
In other miscellaneous news,
I’ve seen a couple of questions floating around the net about School
House Rock! arriving on DVD, and I can confirm that Buena Vista
will release a collection in August 2001. So far, the only information I
have is from the little coupon booklet that was in The Emperor’s
New Groove DVD, and unfortunately, the release month is about it. I’m
trying to get some more details on this, and I’ll let you know as soon
as I find something.
That's it for now,
but stay tuned for more! |
