Father's Day at Disneyland: Dining Options
June 14, 2001
by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix, staff writer
If you took mom to the Disneyland Resort for her special day, you had
a wealth of restaurants
and packages to choose from. But, if you're planning to treat your
dad to the same experience.... well, you'll need to be a little more creative
in your planning!
While many of the Disneyland Resort hotels and Downtown Disney eateries
planned a special menu for Mother's Day, only a handful have given thought
to the dads. But, never fear, your intrepid MousePlanet team has assembled
a list of suggestions, perfect for every Disney-loving dad.
Disneyland Hotel
Hook's Point and Wine Cellar
Hook's Pointe opened in March 1999 as a steak-and-seafood (plus chicken
and pizza) full- service restaurant, with a focus on mesquite- grilled
cuisine and an atmosphere reminiscent of Neverland and a view of the marina.
The Wine Cellar offers a fantastic selection of wines to compliment your
meal, and a more intimate seating area. For breakfast, the omelette is
highly recommended. Save room after dinner for the famous chocolate soufflÚ.

Granville's Steakhouse
Granville's is known for exceptional service, excellent food, and a highly
unusual menu presentation that you have to see to believe. The restaurant
is open only for dinner, and while your Goofy tank top may look stunning,
dressier attire is suggested. Granville's can also be the most expensive
restaurant on property. For a complete menu listing, please visit the

Disney's Grand Californian Hotel
Napa Rose
Led by head chef Andrew Sutton, The Napa Rose has already earned a reputation
for flawless service and delicious food. Despite the recent reductions
in the restaurant's operating hours, a fixed-price Sunday brunch is still
available. Choose 2, 3 or 4 courses, from $22.00 - $34.00. Add champagne
for $10.00, toss in free valet parking, and you again have the best brunch
deal in the resort.

Storyteller's Cafe
Storyteller's recently added a dinner buffet. A variety of items from
the regular menu are offered in an all-you- care-to-eat buffet setting.
Included are carving stations, pastas, and the fabulous corn chowder.
Kids have their own selections, like mac and cheese and Mickey nuggets.

Early reviews of the buffet have been mixed. While there is an excellent
variety of food available, the quality is not up to the same standard
as the regular menu items. Our advice: stick to the main menu, and you
won't be sorry.

Fantasmic! Premium Seating
So, maybe your dad isn't into character breakfasts, and stuffy dinners
aren't his thing. Treat dad to one of the premium seating opportunities
for Fantasmic! There are two packages to choose from. A dessert buffet
served on the Disney Gallery balcony is $43.00 per person, and includes
all-you-care- to-eat desserts, as well as hot and cold beverages. For
more information about this option, please visit Kevin
Yee's firsthand account of working this event.

There is a new option available. For only $40.00, you can sit in a special
reserved seating area, closer to the Rivers of America (below tower C,
for those in the know). Instead of a dessert buffet, you'll be treated
to a boxed dessert, which includes walnut brittle, cookies, a cream tart,
chocolate dipped strawberries, chocolates, and a selection of beverages.
Children get strawberry shortcake in a souvenir Mickey bowl. Because this
seating area holds up to 100 people per performance, it doesn't sell out
like the balcony does. Unfortunately, the view is not as premium as the
price. Again, see Kevin's column for his thoughts on this event.

Reserving a spot for Fantasmic special seating used to require getting
up at the crack of dawn to wait in line for a guest services window to
open on the day of the show. No more. In Spring 2002, Disneyland made
it easier to obtain Priority Seating reservations for Fantasmic special
seating. Call (714) 781-4400, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., seven days a
week, up to 30 days in advance for seats in the Fantasmic Balcony in the
Disney Gallery, or the Fantasmic Premium Viewing area.
