New Candlelight Bean Bag Plush, I "Believe" in better merchandise, and Pins. Lots of Pins.

What a surprise to open my e-mailbox on Thanksgiving morning, and find this note and photograph:

Disneyland is releasing two, new Mini Bag Plush to commemorate the 2000 Candlelight Ceremony. The two minis will release on Monday, November 27, 2000. Although they are not "limited edition", they only produced 3000 of the Mickey Mouse and 4000 of the Minnie Mouse - they will not be producing more, due to the fact that they have the year 2000 embroidered on the foot.

Thought you would like to know. Have a Great Thanksgiving

These are really cute. I'm glad to see a Mickey this year - last year Minnie was all alone. The robes are a nice touch because they look like the CM (cast member) choir robes. These minis also match the Candlelight 2000 pins which were released, pulled, released and pulled again at Disneyland two weeks ago. We understand that those pins will be held for release during Candlelight weekend. If you'd like more information about these Mini Bean Bag Plush, please drop us a note at this link

The "Believe... In Holiday Magic" merchandise has been flying off the shelves. After the first full week of the show, it was getting hard to find some of the items. The Showcase had sold out of all adult t-shirts and sweatshirts, and were even getting low on the "Very Expensive Jacket." Everyone I talked to said they were "waiting for the distribution center" to send them what they needed to stock their shelves.

The good news is: It looks like they finally got the merchandise to the park. They got the baseball cap which matches the Jacket. They even added a new kids sized collection. The bad news: The graphic on the kids sized clothing is 100% better than the one on the adult sizes.

The result? A customer will walk up to a shop, (I've seen this happen at the Guide Stand), point to the kids shirt, and ask for it in an extra large. The Cast Member tells the guest, "I'm sorry, that's a child-sized shirt, this is the adult version." The guest  looks at the adult version and walks away empty handed. The same guest would probably have purchased the adult logo shirt had they not seen the kids version. But, put the two next to each other, and the adult version looks so.... plain?

The Kids Logo is on both the sweatshirt and t-shirt. Compare to the adult logos.

The CMs and merchandise leads know that this was a HUGE miss. Everyone seems to agree that the kids version is so much better - it's brighter, more colorful and better themed. While the Adult merchandise is still selling well, it's not going quite as fast as it had been. I noticed today that a few of the shops had only the adult version hanging up on display, while the kids version was folded away on shelves. Clever! While we're on the subject of "things I wish they had made into a t-shirt", have you seen the "it's a small world holiday" logo?

A missed opportunity

Now, THE ABOVE is a logo that would have sold a few thousand units. I'll add it to my merchandise wish list for next year! (I do realize the logo is on the CD - as someone pointed out to me. But somehow, a CD on a rope just isn't my idea of fashion...)

Finally, Disneyland served up a heaping bowl of Pins with the Turkey yesterday. Six new pins were released in the morning, which was the first new pin release in almost a week. With this release, there are very few pins left on the "Coming Attractions" list which was circulated to the Super Traders in September.
