Additional Information

Refunds / Cancellations / Team Changes — All events are rain-or-shine, so expect to be there unless we announce a cancellation. All registrations are final—there are no refunds once your registration is submitted, and teams may not add players. Teams may drop or change members after registration; a deadline for final changes is 5pm (PDT) on Friday, April 1, 2011. If your team needs to drop or change a player after this date, you will need to make that change during sign in the morning of the event.

Team Names — If you wish to use a team name, you must provide that name when you register. If you do not provide a team name at the time you register you may not add one later. The registration software may reject a team name if it has already been registered for the current event. We do not arbitrate disputes about the use of team names - the first team to register a specific team name is the team that gets to use it for that event. Please keep team names appropriate for the environment; we do reserve the right to reject team names (or refuse to say them out loud).

Team numbers — We cannot accommodate requests for a specific team number. If your team plans to incorporate your team number in your T-shirt design, you can e-mail the event coordinator to learn your team number after registration closes.

Family Teams — If at least 10 family teams register for this event, they will be ranked against the other Family teams for scoring and prize purposes. If there are fewer than 10 Family teams registered for this event, the Family teams will compete against all teams for scoring and prize purposes. The "Family team" designation is used primarily for scoring purposes, and does not impact the event schedule or rules for the event.

Admission Tickets — Your registration fee does not include park admission! If you do not have an appropriate annual pass, you must make arrangements for park admission, and we strongly urge you to do so before arrival on game day. Please read the description of each division for specific admission requirements, as they vary from division to division.

Sign In — All teams will sign in at the Paradise Pier Hotel Ballroom the morning of the event. We will take team photos during the sign in process, so your entire team must be present before you sign in. Please make sure your entire team is on time, as a delay in registration will delay the start of the game, resulting in less play time for everyone.

Parking — Resort Parking is not included in your registration fee. Teams may park at the Paradise Pier Hotel for a discounted all-day parking rate of $15 per car. As some returning players might remember, the Paradise Pier lot is extremely small, and is almost certain to reach capacity before the event starts. Teams can also park in the Mickey and Friends parking structure, which is about a 15-minute walk from the Paradise Pier Hotel.

Note: the 101 division does not include a post-event gathering at the hotel. We expect that the Paradise Pier hotel parking lot will reach capacity before sign in begins for the 101 division players, so we strongly recommend that teams in the 101 division park in the Mickey and Friends parking structure, which will be more convenient at the end of the game.

Winners and Prizes — The results of the Basic and Advanced Divisions of MouseAdventure Luau will be announced at the post-game award ceremony. The top teams in the Basic Overall, Advanced Overall, New Team and Family Team (if applicable) categories will receive a pre-selected package of Disney prizes.

The results of the 101 Division will be tabulated after the event concludes, and will be announced on MousePlanet.com within a few days of the event. There are no prizes for this non-competitive division.

Personalized buttons — For those who want something a little more permanent from their experience, we offer customized name tag buttons. These 2.25" round buttons, designed just for this event, are personalized to show your name, and are available during team check-in so that you and your teammates can wear them during the event. Each button costs $3.50, and is yours to keep. If you want them, you must order these with your MouseAdventure registration. If you add buttons to your MouseAdventure registration, make sure you provide the exact text that should appear on each button. For best results, use 10 characters or fewer; beyond that the text is increasingly small. [This font is especially hard to read if you exceed 10 characters, so we do not recommend ordering buttons with your team name on them this time around] We reserve the right to reject any text for any reason.

Outfits and costumes — We are always amazed at the creativity displayed by the increasing number of teams who go all out in putting together a team "uniform." Do keep in mind that Disney does not allow anyone over the age of 9 to wear "costumes" in the park, and it is difficult to know where a line might be drawn. Keep in mind as well the environment we'll all be in, and stay age-appropriate. We reserve the right to refuse admission to teams or players with inappropriate or offensive outfits, costumes, t-shirts or accessories. If you'd like to put together a team uniform, we invite your team to participate in the T-Shirt competition described below.

Team T-shirt Competition — Keeping in mind that Disney does not allow adults (or anyone over 9) to wear "costumes" in the theme parks, MouseAdventure teams are invited to channel their creative efforts and participate in the Team T-Shirt competition. To enter the T-shirt competition, teams must submit their design(s) by the deadline listed below. Late submissions will not be accepted or included in the competition.

  • You must submit your t-shirt design(s) by e-mail (teamshirts@mouseadventure.com)
  • Images must be .jpg or .gif files. PLEASE downsize your files to no larger than about 1600 pixels on the largest dimension. Your 4MB .tif image might be amazing, but it can't be judged if the file crashes our e-mail system.
  • If all of your shirts are identical, you only need to submit one design image. (Or two if the front and back of your shirts have a different design) If you have multiple designs for your team, submit one example of each design.
  • Please make sure that your submission is CLEARLY explained. (i.e., photo A is the front of shirt #1, photo B is the back of shirt #1, photo C is the front of shirts #2 and #3) or whatever. We're not going to spend a whole lot of time trying to decipher cryptic file notations. If there's a cute back-story behind your design, you may include that in your submission if you wish. BUT REMEMBER, your design(s) will be judged based on the image(s) you provide, so the design needs to speak for itself.
  • Shirts are reviewed by a panel of MouseAdventure staff. Bonus points are given to designs that in some way reflect the event theme.
  • The deadline for t-shirt submissions is Friday, April 1, 2011.

Communication — Team captains (the person registering the team) will receive a credit card receipt by e-mail within an hour. A detailed registration confirmation that includes your team information will be sent to your team about one week after registration closes. If you don't receive this e-mail, don't hesitate to drop us an e-mail. One frequent issue we have is with spam filters blocking mass e-mails sent to all registered teams. Please take a moment to unblock e-mail from mouseplanet.com, and encourage your teammates to do the same.

Again, this is a really good time to add mouseadventure@mouseplanet.com to your e-mail client's approved sender list. If you use Earthlink or Hotmail, we can not guarantee that you will receive event-related e-mail from MouseAdventure. We STRONGLY encourge players with Earthlink or Hotmail accounts to register for another e-mail address (GMail is free, and works just fine) to ensure you receive all of the messages from MouseAdventure.

Basic event rules and a preliminary event schedule are now available on the MouseAdventure information page (link). While we will be in contact with your entire team by e-mail (if you provide valid e-mail addresses for your teammates when you register), it is the responsibility of the Team Captain (the person registering the team) to make sure that all members of their team review the rules and schedule. Please make sure to review the rules well before the event, so that any questions may be addressed before game day.

Theme Park Admission — Click here to purchase specially-priced Disneyland® Resort Theme Park tickets!! ( http://www.disneyconventionear.com/HPMD11A )

These special ticket prices are not available once you arrive at the Resort. Our ticket store closes at 9:00 PM PST on Saturday, April 09, 2011, so don't delay.

Disneyland Resort Hotel Rates — The Disneyland Resort Hotels offer discounted room rates for MouseAdventure participants. To take advantage of these rates, call (714) 520-5005 and ask for the MousePlanet rate. Rates are shown below, and do not include taxes or Resort fees:

  • Paradise Pier Hotel - $232 / night
  • Disneyland Hotel - $264 / night
  • Disney's Grand Californian Hotel - $356 / night

Wheelchair rentals — We regret that we can no longer offer wheelchair rentals to MouseAdventure participants. If a member of your team will require the use of a wheelchair or ECV during the event, you have a few options:

  • Players staying at a Disneyland Resort Hotel can rent standard (push) wheelchairs directly from the hotel. Please check with the hotel directly for information about cost and availability. Unfortunately, the hotels do not have scooters (ECVs) available to rent.
  • Players may rent a wheelchair or scooter from Disneyland or DCA once they enter the park. These rentals can only be used in the theme parks, and not be taken back to the hotel after the event.
  • Players may also rent a wheelchair or ECV from an outside company. Some MousePlanet readers recommend Deckert's Medical Supply (714) 542-5607 or OC Medical (714) 956-4690.
Helpful Reminders

If you are new to MouseAdventure, the following information is going to be very helpful. And be sure to review the “Preparing for MouseAdventure” section of the MouseAdventure page – there are lots of good hints there.

If you've been here before, go ahead and peruse the suggestions below anyway – there's important information in there, plus you never know what you've forgotten since the last game – or what has changed since the last event.

What to wear:

As always, we suggest that you wear comfortable walking shoes, sun block and hats / visors. Watch the weather forecast, and pack layers if appropriate. Don't forget about our team t-shirt contest!

What NOT to wear:

Do keep in mind that Disney does not allow “costumes” in the park, and it is difficult to know where a line might be drawn. Keep this in mind when designing team uniforms, as well the environment we'll all be in, and stay age-appropriate. We reserve the right to refuse admission to teams or players with inappropriate or offensive outfits, costumes, t-shirts or accessories.

What to bring:

Our best teams all agree, clipboards are your friends. Some even bring one for each member of their team. Be sure to bring pens and/or pencils, and maybe some scrap paper. It's always a good idea to bring pens of differing colors, as well as highlighters and pencils with erasers.

We also suggest that you bring water and small snacks, so you don't need to stop during the event. You will NOT have time to stop for a meal during this event, and you are going to be hungry. You MUST prepare for this in advance of the game so you do not lose valuable time stopping for a corn dog. Trust us on this one.

Finally, be sure to be prepared with comfy shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, hats, sun block and sunglasses.

What to leave in your car or locker:

Electronic devices, calculators, GPS units, reference materials, trivia books, and other such aids. You won't be allowed to use them, and they get heavy if you have to haul them around all day! Players may carry cell phones with them so they can be reached in the event of an emergency, but teams will receive penalties, up to disqualification, if players are caught using cell phones or text messaging during the event.

Other considerations:

If you are participating with small children, be prepared to play just for fun, and leave the stress of competition behind. Non-registered friends, companions and children over 5 years old may not accompany your team during the game, even if they “aren't helping.”

Teams may not work together, and related teams should not be working on the same quest at the same time. If you have registered multiple teams of friends / family, please understand that your teams will be required to split up during the event. Consider holding your own mini-competition to see which team gets the best score!

Weather report:

Some MouseAdventure players believe that the day of any particular MouseAdventure will be the hottest day of that given month. Even so, be sure to check the weather forecast so you know what to expect on game day. MouseAdventure will go on rain or shine, however rain may require us to change or cancel portions of the event. Unfortunately, there is very little we can do about this, so keep your fingers crossed that the mythical "Magic of MouseAdventure" works to keep skies clear.

Event Rules

These rules cover the basics of MouseAdventure – additional rules may be given to teams before or on the day of the event. Please study these instructions to avoid confusion, point penalties, or even disqualification.

These rules apply to all teams participating in MouseAdventure, regardless of division, unless otherwise indicated below. Unidentified crew members are monitoring for violations and although their decisions may be subjective or susceptible to misunderstanding, there is no appeal.

If during the event you need to do something that may look like you are violating one of these rules, consider returning to MouseAdventure Central in either park and inform the staff members there before you do it.

  • Disney parks are dynamic places – who knows what may change and affect this game? Consider stopping by the MouseAdventure Central station during the game to see if there are any new announcements or changes.
  • Return the entire packet to the designated MouseAdventure Central station(s) at the conclusion of the game. (Official end time will be announced later) Late returns may not be graded. You must be in line to return the game packet by the announced time.
  • Teams must stay together through the event. All teammates should be within a few feet of each other unless an exception has been indicated. Exceptions: Restroom breaks (the rest of the team must remain nearby).
  • If you must ride an attraction, team members who are unwilling or unable to ride that attraction may wait at the attraction's exit. However, you may not leave any game materials with that team member.

Prohibited behaviors

  • Running. Your team is only as fast as your slowest member. If your slowest member cannot keep up with the rest of the team, you are considered separated. You should also not try to move faster than the local conditions allow; forcing your way through crowded areas will also result in penalties.
  • Line-cutting, pushing, shoving, or other rudeness. Play it safe since this is essentially a subjective call.
  • Any kind of overt cheating. Examples would be looking at another team's materials, or asking people not on your team for assistance.
  • Using reference materials other than the Guide to the Magic park map and brochure. Unless the quest indicates otherwise, the use of any other reference materials is strictly prohibited (this includes any materials you may bring with yourself, as well as books available in various stores).
  • Asking Cast Members for assistance. CMs often know when MouseAdventure is occurring and are known to purposely give wrong information. Teams found getting CM assistance receive no credit for that quest, even if the Cast Members initiate the assistance. Be polite in telling them you need to do it yourself.
  • Using electronic equipment to aid in event completion (including FRS radios, ham radios, GPS, cell phones, digital cameras, audio recorders, camcorders, pagers, laptops, PDAs, and so on). If anything intrudes on the game that requires using one of these things, returning to MouseAdventure Central to do so is the safest thing.

A special note about cameras: We understand that some teams like to take photos of themselves during the event, and teams ask us every year why we prohibit digital cameras and camcorders. Unfortunately such devices can be used to cheat during MouseAdventure, and we therefore prohibited their use during most events.

If your team would like to carry a camera during the event, we recommend that you bring a disposable film camera, ideally a model that clearly looks like a disposable camera from a distance. MouseAdventure crew members are stationed throughout the park(s) during these events, and they aren't going to chase after you to inspect your camera if they spot your team using one during the event. Be especially careful to avoid any cameras that have a playback feature or screen.

Other important reminders:

  • Quest answers must be written in the indicated locations on the answer sheet(s). If you don't answer a question where indicated by the quest, there is no guarantee it will be seen.
  • Team players must be 6 years or older and identified when you sign-in. Substitutions must be made prior to the start of the event. Each team member must wear the appropriate team numbers as indicated at all times during the game.
  • Teams must have at least 2 players and no more than 4 players at any time. If a team member must drop out during the game, return to MouseAdventure Central for instructions. Non-registered friends, companions and children over 5 years old may not accompany your team during the game.
  • Do not loiter at MouseAdventure Central; leave the area promptly once you have your materials or questions answered.
  • Teams may be required to ride attractions or enter queues. If you must ride an attraction, team members who are unwilling or unable to ride that attraction may wait at the attraction's exit. However, you may not leave any game materials with that team member.
  • Registered participants consent to the use of their likeness in photos for articles about, and promotion of, the event.
